A note from Bugs Bunny At The Symphony creator and conductor George Daugherty: «Did you ever wonder just how many musical notes back up Elmer Fudd when he sings "Kill Da Wabbit, Kill Da Wabbit, Kill Da Wabbit" in "What's Opera, Doc?" Well, here it is . . . and the orchestration as arranged by Milt Franklyn is as full and packed as was the original by Richard Wagner (from his opera "Die Walkure.") The Looney Tunes creators weren't messing around!!! And this is just four bars of the massive Bugs/Elmer/Wagnerian score!!! These scores are very dense, this is what our conductor looks at all night during Bugs Bunny at the Symphony, and there are many hundreds of page turns! The authenticity and grandeur of the musical arrangements are what makes "What's Opera, Doc?", "The Rabbit of Seville," and the others so hilarious when pitted again the onscreen antics. And this musical authenticity played by a huge orchestra, as originally dreamed up by the great Carl Stalling, is what gives the Looney Tunes their unmistakable signature sound. (Warner Bros. was the only studio to use their full Warner Bros. Orchestra of 80-90 or more musicians to record for the animated shorts. The rest of the studios used a reduced "studio orchestra" for their shorts, including Disney and MGM/Tom & Jerry.) "What's Opera, Doc?" is an absolute miracle as it takes the iconic themes from Wagner's four Ring Cycle operas (Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung), plus four more . . . Tannhauser, Lohengrin, The Flying Dutchman, and Rienzi . . .8 nights total . . . and presents it all in 6 minutes and 23 seconds!!! »

I was able to catch the parent preview for this show last night. Highly recommend!!! And how about that sound master??

A Unique opportunity for our !

Along with our collaboration with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic this summer, we're also working together on the CIP’s Sept 28th concert, and we would love to give you the opportunity to narrate along with their orchestra.

The narration is from "A Midsummers Night's Dream", featuring lines from Oberon, Titania, and Puck. You would need to be available for rehearsal on Sept 28 from 2-4:30PM and for the concert starting at 7PM. This portion of the concert would likely start around 8:15PM.

If interested in auditioning, please fill out this form, and submit a recording of yourself reading the excerpt before 8PM on Aug 22. We will select from the submissions by Aug 23.

The Headmaster of School has bought seven upright pianos for a total outlay of £16. The pianos have been placed all around the school for children to play at breaktimes and lunchtimes.

Most of the pianos were offered to the school by local residents who no longer had use for them. In fact, four of the “new” pianos were totally free, two cost £1 each on eBay and the “luxury” one cost £13.99.

A school spokesperson said: “The pianos have been placed around the school, mainly outdoors - but under cover.”

Interestingly, the pianos have turned out to be especially popular with boys in Year 9 and girls in the Sixth Form.

Headmaster, Charles Fillingham, previously worked on the Eurostar train and brought the idea up to the from the pianos which are dotted around St Pancras Station in London.

This initiative formed part of Solihull School’s successful bid to be named as Independent School of the Year.

Mr Fillingham said: “Solihull School has some really talented pupil musicians and also some whose playing is less conventional. It is a delight to hear the pianos being played well and I am prepared to tolerate the crashing and banging that sometimes goes along with it.”

On the first day that the pianos were put into the school, a shy boy in Year 8 sat down to play a piece of classical music.

Afterwards, the other children gave him a round of applause.

Charles Fillingham added: “There are worse things that young people can do at lunchtime than mucking around on an old piano. Creativity, innovation, the arts and music are really important for a rounded education – at this price any school could afford to install pianos.”

It Matters How It Sounds

My interest in pianos stems from having played my whole life. When the opportunity to learn the tuning/technician trade came along I took it. It is such a rewarding vocation!

Since a piano goes out of tune slowly, our ears tend to adjust and we may not notice the decline in sound quality. When was the last time your piano was serviced? Chances are it’s time for a tuning. A pianist, regardless of caliber, is best served by a piano that is in-tune and well-maintained. Lykins Piano Service has over 22 years of experience keeping pianos sounding top notch. Allow yourself to enjoy your piano at its best.
