The Elkhorn Independent was established in 1853. It was then that Edgar J. Farnum, from a farm in the Town of Geneva, put out the first Independent. The first paper published in Elkhorn, and in the county was the Western Star, first issue Aug. 8, 1845; edited by George Gale and Francis Utter. The Western Star was absorbed by the Independent, and the paper was at one time known as the Walworth County Independent. Now the Independent is owned by Southern Lakes Newspapers.

I can finally share that I’m competing on Next Level Baker Season 1 on FOX, alongside the incredible Gordon Ramsay, Carla Hall, and Chef Candace Nelson.

This isn’t just my opportunity… this is our town’s moment. Elkhorn, Delavan, Lake Geneva, Walworth County—you’ve lifted me, believed in me, and walked with me through every crazy, flour-covered step. And now we get to experience something unbelievable together.

Next Level Baker premieres on December 4th (next day on Hulu), and we’ll be hosting a huge community watch party at the Lake Geneva House of Music—details coming soon! We want to celebrate with YOU!

The Elkhorn Police Department is hosting a food and diaper drive! We know this year may be more difficult than others and would like to help the members of our community in any way we can! We will have a box in the Police Department lobby where donations can be dropped off Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30!

🧡 Let’s Make a Difference This Thanksgiving 🧡

We know so many people in our community want to help others — sometimes it’s just hard to know where or how to start.

At Oglesby Hardwood Flooring, we’re making it easy to help this year!

We’re putting together Thanksgiving Meal Baskets for families right here in Walworth County who could use a little extra support this season. Our goal is to deliver as many baskets as possible to our local food pantries — and we’d love your help to make it happen!

Ways to help:

✨ Sponsor a full basket

Each basket should include the following non-perishable items:

Stuffing mix

Cranberry sauce

Powdered mashed potatoes

Green beans

Cream of mushroom soup

Crispy fried onions

A $20 grocery gift card (to help families purchase their turkey)

or

✨ Donate any of the items listed above — we’ll take it from there and make sure every donation is safely delivered to one of our local food pantries.

We’ve already been in touch with the Elkhorn Food Pantry and have committed to donating 20 baskets, but if you know of other pantries or community organizations that could benefit from Thanksgiving baskets, please reach out to Kristy — we’d love to expand our impact if we can!
