The Elkhorn Independent was established in 1853. It was then that Edgar J. Farnum, from a farm in the Town of Geneva, put out the first Independent. The first paper published in Elkhorn, and in the county was the Western Star, first issue Aug. 8, 1845; edited by George Gale and Francis Utter. The Western Star was absorbed by the Independent, and the paper was at one time known as the Walworth County Independent. Now the Independent is owned by Southern Lakes Newspapers.

MML, along with all other local libraries, is suffering a big internet outage. We're crossing our fingers for a fix tomorrow, but until that happens our WIFI network and public terminals will be out of service. Sorry for the trouble. However, we can still check out books to you!
