The Appalachian Forest Discovery Summit is an annual event that brings together stakeholders who share interest in the unique natural and cultural resources centered on the highland forests of WV and western Maryland that make our region significant. Our goal is to foster collaboration, share best practices, and inspire new ideas for the continued support and growth of our region. This year’s event will take place on September 18th and 19th, with presentations at Snowshoe Mountain Resort on the 18th and tours of AFNHA assets in and around Pocahontas County on the 19th. More details to be announced.

We are seeking engaging and informative presentations on a variety of topics related to the AFNHA themes of Abundant Forest, Resilient Forest, Crucible of Isolation, and Logging Boom Build the Nation.

Join us Saturday, August 2nd from 9AM–4PM at Davis & Elkins College in Randolph County for a FREE, hands-on Trail Building Workshop 🛠️

Start the day with an interactive classroom session where you'll learn the basics of trail design, construction, maintenance, and how to lead a crew. Then we’ll hit the woods for a guided trail work session led by seasoned pros.

No tools? No problem. We’ll provide everything you need—just bring your curiosity, energy, and love for the outdoors!

🎥Movies at the Mill returns with a FREE screening of "Matewan" (1987) directed by John Sayles!

This independent film portrays the Battle of Matewan, a coal miners' strike in the southern coalfields of West Virginia.

🎻Joining us will be folklorist and "Matewan" fiddler Gerald Milnes for a conversation and performance about the shared history of old time music and Appalachian resilience.
