Conjoined twin bats are extraordinarily rare and most are discovered as mummifiedied remains. Researchers believe this happens in less than 0.1% of bat births and due to the complexity of sharing organs or skeletal systems, most conjoined bats do not survive.

There’s beauty even in death! (And in mummification😉) Immediately after death, specific changes occur in the body, leading to the total dissolution of the soft tissues and internal organs. In some cases, when in suitable conditions, the decomposition process could stop and be displaced by mummification.

Natural mummification is unique because it's an unintentional process that occurs when a body is exposed to environmental factors that prevent decay (extreme cold/very dry conditions)

An intraventricular fetus-in-fetu, a malformed monochorionic diamniotic twin, was identified in a 1-year-old girl with motor delay and enlarged head circumference.

After surgical removal, whole-genome sequencing revealed identical single-nucleotide variants in the host child and fetus-in-fetu, with extensive de novo copy number gains in the fetus-in-fetu, suggesting the significance of copy number variation during embryogenesis.
