The Baldathon — Where Leadership Meets Influence

Today’s show brought together two powerful forces — leadership and authenticity. I even left a little stubble to match my brother Roshan’s rugged look for the Baldathon! 😄

You know that feeling when you attend an event and meet just one person who makes it all worthwhile? That’s what this connection was.

The Baldathon wasn’t just about being bald — it was about shining light on leaders who influence through heart, purpose, and presence.

Leadership isn’t about how you look. It’s about how you lift others.

The Gift — A Celebration of Leadership and Giving

Our third Authorthon of the year is here — and it’s called The Gift. 🎁 It’s the perfect reminder that sometimes, the best gift you can give… is to yourself. So if you’re short on presents this Christmas, grab this book, wrap it up, and write “From Santa — to me.”

And speaking of Santa, he’s joining us straight from the North Pole to talk about leadership through giving — because who better to represent the spirit of generosity and purpose this season?

These shows keep bringing incredible people together — leaders, givers, and changemakers. Here’s to sharing more light, more love, and more gifts that truly matter.

The Book That Teaches You to Influence with Integrity

Thank you, Dr. Smiley, for the opportunity to share today! My message is simple — be grateful, make good choices, and help others by teaching them how to think so they can achieve what they want in life. That’s the highest form of leadership.

If what I said resonated with you, and you want to learn how to truly connect and close the gap — in your relationships, business, or daily life — check out my book: Teach to Sell: Why Top Salespeople Never Sell and What They Do Instead.

It’s not just for salespeople — it’s for anyone who wants to influence, lead, and communicate ethically, without pressure. Get it (plus $10,000 worth of free transformational training) at www.teach2sellbook.com
If you don’t want to become a better communicator or a better human being… then this book isn’t for you. 😉

Lead People — Don’t Manage Them

We manage things, but we lead people. Leadership isn’t about control — it’s about vision, consistency, and influence. And influence isn’t something you turn on and off; it’s an all-the-time thing.

How you do anything is how you do everything.

The way you show up daily shapes how people trust and follow you. Because here’s the truth: people don’t trust what they see once — they trust what they see repeatedly.

Show up with excellence. Lead with integrity. Influence through consistency.

Close the Gap — Don’t Pull Harder

The wider the gap, the harder we try to pull — but the harder we pull, the more likely we are to break the trust or the relationship. The ones who truly close the gap don’t pull at all. They connect first, they ask, they listen, and they help others think for themselves.

Influence isn’t about force — it’s about connection. It’s about building enough trust that it walks across the gap on its own.

I learned that the hard way. For years, alcohol was my escape — until it became my cage. But through connection and trust, I found freedom again. That’s the real power of closing the gap.

You Win Some, You Lose Some — But Always Show Up

We just lost the game — by one point. Fourth quarter, field goal range, ready to win… and then, a fumble. The Chicago Bears took it, ran it back, and sealed the deal. That one hurt.

But that’s life. That’s business. That’s leadership. You win some, you lose some. What matters most is that you keep showing up — just like we do here at the Baldathon, with heart, humor, and hustle.

Because real leaders don’t quit when they lose — they rise, reset, and return stronger.

The Influence Gap — Where Trust Begins

Think back to someone who truly believed in you — maybe a teacher, a coach, or a mentor. Remember their voice, their confidence in you, the way it made you feel. You’d probably still follow their advice today, right? Because they earned your trust.

That kind of connection is rare — and that’s the problem. We crave trust, but we rarely experience it. Not because people are bad, but because genuine connection has become uncommon.

Closing the influence gap starts by showing up with presence, empathy, and belief in others — just like someone once did for you.

Play Chess, Not Checkers — Lead with Intention

True influencers don’t move by chance — they move with purpose. Every decision is intentional, like a chess player thinking five moves ahead. Influence isn’t luck; it’s strategy, vision, and heart.

Leadership starts with leading yourself first — then your family, your team, and your community. Influence is simply leadership in motion.

And here’s the truth: we don’t manage people, we lead them. We manage things. But people? People need leaders who show up daily, lead by example, and inspire through action.

The Power of Real Connection

Connection doesn’t happen by accident — it happens through intention. There’s a space between you and the person you want to reach, and closing that gap begins with one deliberate step forward. That’s when real connection starts.

Most people fake rapport with a smile or handshake, but true rapport comes from presence — from connecting energetically. As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

When you connect at that level, you don’t just communicate — you resonate. Trust begins before words are even spoken.

Redefining What It Means to Be an Influencer

When I think of true influence, I think of people like Jose. Someone who doesn’t just talk — he moves people to act. When he says, “Trust me, be there,” people show up. Not because of persuasion, but because of trust.

That’s what real influence looks like — showing up for your community so consistently that your word carries weight. It’s not about followers or fame; it’s about connection, reliability, and impact.

Influencers like Jose remind us: leadership isn’t about being seen — it’s about being trusted.

From Fear to Freedom — My Bald Journey

When I was a kid, I was terrified of bald people — truly. It sounds funny now, but that fear was real. Life, however, has a way of teaching us through transformation. Years later, when I became bald myself, everything changed.

At the time, I was caring for my mother — what I thought would be two weeks turned into three beautiful years. In that journey, I learned what real strength and love look like. Being bald became a symbol of courage, care, and connection.

Sometimes what once scared us becomes the thing that sets us free.

The Secret Moves of Real Influence

Most people think influence comes from having the right answers — but it actually comes from asking the right questions. The kind that makes someone pause, reflect, and uncover what they truly feel or want. That’s where trust begins.

Then comes the next move: listening. Not waiting to talk, but truly listening — with presence, with heart, with awareness of what’s between the words. When you listen like that, people feel seen, safe, and valued.

Influence isn’t something you chase. It’s something you earn — and something you’re given.
