In about 10 days (we hope šŸ¤žšŸ») we’ll finally be able to share the big news.

The KXLE-FM studio is wired, the computers are in, and testing is underway. There’s still plenty to do, but every day the new downtown studios look a little more like home.

If you look closely, you’ll also spot a hand-drawn picture taped to the side of the desk. We have no idea who drew it or exactly when it appeared, but it lived in the old studio for years. Somewhere along the way it became part of KXLE, so it made the move with us.

Some things are changing. Some things aren’t.

For the last few months, there have been a lot of late nights, early mornings, phone calls, meetings, moving boxes, and more than a few moments where we wondered if we’d lost our minds.

The good news? We haven’t.

Something new is coming to KXLE.

It’s something we’ve talked about for a long time. Something we believe our community deserves. Something built around the idea that local radio should still be local.

We’re not quite ready to tell you exactly what it is yet.

But we are getting close.

Stay tuned.

If you grew up with the country music we play on KXLE, you probably remember when phone numbers sometimes had names instead of just numbers. With that in mind, do us a favor and save this one:

šŸ“ž (509) 260-KXLE ... aka (509) 260-5953

We're keeping the details under wraps for now, but there's a reason we're asking. Trust us when we say you're going to want this number handy.

Something new is taking shape around here.

Not a contest.
Not a format flip.
Not another syndicated voice from somewhere else.

Just something we’ve been working on that we think local radio ought to sound a little more like.

Stay tuned.

Please excuse the mess.

The new downtown KXLE studios are starting to come together. There’s still plenty left to do, but it’s exciting to watch an empty room slowly become a radio station. One thing we love about this project is that some of KXLE’s history came with us. The broadcast desks from both our AM and FM studios made the move downtown and are now serving the opposite station from where they started.

Truth be told, there are easier ways to be in the radio business these days. Across the country, local stations are disappearing, being consolidated, or operated from hundreds of miles away. That’s not a criticism, it’s just the reality of the industry.

But we’ve chosen a different path. We believe there’s still value in local radio. We believe there’s value in local voices, local sports, local weather, local news, and a station that’s woven into the fabric of the community it serves.

Maybe we’re a little old-fashioned. But if we don’t believe in local radio, why should anyone else?

One of the questions we've been asked quite a bit lately is whether sports programming will be returning to KXLE. The answer is that we'd certainly like it to. Whether that's Mariners baseball or local high school sports, we believe there's still a place for that kind of programming on local radio.

But here is the reality: sports broadcasts are supported by local businesses. Before we can commit to bringing programming like this back, we need to know there's enough sponsor and advertiser interest to make it sustainable. We're already reaching out to businesses throughout the community, but we'd like your help too.

If there are businesses you regularly support and you'd like to hear sports on KXLE, tag them in the comments. Let them know it's something you'd like to see happen. And if you're a business owner who might be interested in being part of the conversation, click the link below and add your name to our "Reach Out When You're Ready" list.

No commitment. No pressure. We're simply trying to gauge interest as we explore what's possible.

The FM signal might not quite make it all the way to the river… But our livestream does. šŸ˜Ž

So whether you’re floating, fishing, camping, or pretending you know how to back a boat trailer down the ramp, take KXLE with you this summer.

If you’re already streaming something from your phone, why not make it local?
