Highlighting some super nice New Releases, Reissues and restocks that are now nestled in the shop:
⭐Moor Mother - The Great Bailout⭐
To engage the stunning, evocative, haunting gift that is Moor Mother’s latest album, The Great Bailout—an expansive meditation that acts as a non-linear word map about colonialism, slavery, and commerce in Great Britain–follow the trail of verbal and sonic poetry delivered by Moor Mother and her collaborators: Lonnie Holley, Mary Lattimore, Alya Al Sultani, Kyle Kidd and more.
⭐Faye Webster - Underdressed at the Symphony⭐
Faye Webster’s fifth studio album, Underdressed at the Symphony, was recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas with her longtime band, and revels in experimentation, playfulness and adventurousness. At any given moment, Webster might be making country-tinged indie rock flecked simultaneously by pedal steel guitar and modern R&B production and songwriting techniques – a bespoke sound which has won her ardent fans.
⭐Linda Smith - I So Liked Spring and Nothing Else Matters (Reissues)⭐
Nearly 30 years after their initial release, home-recording pioneer and lo-fi cult artist Linda Smith shares two full-length album reissues Nothing Else Matters (recorded in 1995, this album captures the tension between daily life and creativity; its arrangements are sophisticated, reflecting Smith’s evolving recording techniques with a Fostex 8-track machine) and I So Liked Spring (an LP that sets the poetry of Charlotte Mew to music, resulting in unpredictable yet melodic songs, reminiscent of early dream pop), available now for the first time on vinyl.
⭐Can - Ege Bamyasi and Soundtracks⭐
Can's 1972 album Ege Bamyasi drops the haze and hits with a sharp pang from the get-go. Often described as the "tense" Can album, Ege Bamyasi is actually the band at its most focused. Includes the big-time jams ‘Spoon’ and ‘Vitamin C.’
First released in 1970, Soundtracks consists of songs written for various films. The album marks the departure of the band's original vocalist Malcolm Mooney, who sings on two tracks, to be replaced by new member Damo Suzuki.
⭐Hailu Mergia - Wede Harer Guzo and Pioneer Works Swing (Live)⭐
Originally a cassette-only Ethiopian release (circa 1977) Wede Harer Guzo is Hailu Mergia's very vibey recording from the Ghion hotel nightclub with its house band, Dahlak Band, a seasoned soul group who were particularly suited to his instrumental sound.
Pioneer Works Swing (Live) documents one of Hailu Mergia's stellar live performances. This celebratory concert was recorded with his trio in 2016 at Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works, a venue that has hosted some of Mergia's most fiery Stateside concerts.
