Our Friday morning AQI forecast update denotes some chances at improvement with our air quality this weekend, but it's all variable right now. Even as the visibility improves, there will still be enough particulates in the air to keep our air quality moderate or higher, which is around 100+ micrograms per cubic meter for fine particulates (PM 2.5). Another wave of smoke is likely late Saturday into Sunday, especially across the Upper Peninsula. Even with the rain chances moving in, our winds out of the northwest will still be an issue.
Thunderstorms occurring this morning in western Ontario and Minnesota may have helped fire fighting opportunities, however, more lightning did occur up this way, so we will be watching satellite data closely for new fires.
