During a brief meeting of the Elwood Community School Corporation Board of Trustees last Thursday, Superintendent Dr. Troy Friedersdorf announced his retirement from the position effective June 1.

"This decision is not a reaction to the challenges currently facing the district, nor is it a decision to step away because the work has become difficult," said Friedersdorf. "My retirement is a personal and professional decision based on timing, family considerations, and eligibility after 32 years in public education.”

Friedersdorf expressed his full support for Heather Anderson as she steps into the role of interim superintendent. He said she has served the district well as high school assistant principal, high school principal, and director of student services.

Indiana State Police say that an Anderson man died Monday when his motorcycle struck a truck at the intersection of State Roads 37 & 128.

According to a press release from ISP, the motorcycle’s operator, Noah Alberts, 28, of Anderson, was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation.

The EJSHS Prom is Saturday, May 2 at the Elwood Opera House. This year’s Prom Court includes Kaci McCray, Klaetyn Poor, Karson Parker, Alivia Rexford, Ayden Mort, and Avery Brooks.

The 2026 Elwood Junior Senior High School Prom is Saturday, May 2 at the Elwood Opera House. This year’s is “Tangled.” Walk-ins begin at 7 p.m., and the King and Queen will be crowned around 10:30 p.m.

The deadline to register to vote in the May primary is Monday, April 6. Voters can register through the end of the business day Monday at the Madison County Government Center, or online at IndianaVoters.in.gov. You can also double check your registration at that address.

The Elwood Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the annual City Wide Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Callaway Park.

The Chamber is accepting donations of candy, as well as monetary donations to help with the expenses. Donations may be brought to the Chamber office at 108 South Anderson Street by Monday, April 6. Call 552-0180 if you have any questions.
