Leaders of Today CEO Marsalis Hammons said that the message of this year’s mural would be “To a Brighter Tomorrow, Together We Can Rise,” which is inspired by a poem written by a member of the program earlier this year.

This weekend, students in the Lorain County Leaders of Today program will paint a mural onto the drab, often graffitied sides of the 2nd Street Bridge in Elyria.

Specifications to Duran Mims' charges could put him in prison for an additional one to five years, mandatory, if convicted. According to court records, he is free on bond posting $5,000 bond that was set in April in Avon Lake Municipal Court plus another $20,000 cash/surety bond set in Common Pleas Court over alleged probation violations in June.

Duran Mims, 45, of Shaker Heights, was indicted Friday in Lorain County Common Pleas Court on two felony DUI charges with specifications and a misdemeanor charge of driving under suspension.

According to documents submitted to Oberlin City Council, Kendal at Oberlin looks to expand its campus by a possible addition of more than 100 living units for senior residents.

The potential zoning change — which would convert approximately 10 acres of land — follows a proposal from Kendal at Oberlin to rezone the parcels to make way for a possible expansion of the retirement community.

Kale Hamker, now 17, is the fifth generation to work his family’s farm, which, until about a decade ago, primarily grew grain. It has acres of grain stretching to Columbia Township.

It had been decades since his family's farm had seen dairy cows on their West Ridge Road property when Kale Hamker, now 17, received the brown Ayrshire cow as a Christmas present from family friends in 2016.

A second leg of the HTCS harness racing will be held at the Lorain County Fair today at 11 a.m.

Harness racing, a part of the Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association, began Sunday afternoon as this year's county fair officially commenced.

As the king's crown and the queen's tiara was placed on the heads of the Lorain County Junior Fair's new royalty, the 179th annual Lorain County Fair began during Sunday afternoon's opening ceremony.

"We have been asked by the Secretary of the Army to send 150 military police from the Ohio National Guard to support the District of Columbia National Guard,” DeWine stated in a press release. “These Ohio National Guard members will carry out presence patrols and serve as added security.”

In the coming days, the state of Ohio will send National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. – adding to the presence of law enforcement in the nation's capital at the direction of President Donald Trump.
