Great Dane Cancels Planned Mass Layoff at Elysburg Facility

Great Dane has officially rescinded a previously announced mass layoff at its Elysburg, Pennsylvania manufacturing facility, according to a letter distributed to employees dated December 17, 2025.

The company cited a recent increase in trailer orders as the reason for withdrawing the WARN Act mass layoff notice that had originally been issued on December 4, 2025. That layoff had been scheduled to begin on February 2, 2026.

According to the notice, employees at the Elysburg facility will continue their regular at-will employment, and the anticipated workforce reduction will no longer take place.

The decision comes as positive news for local workers and the surrounding community, following weeks of uncertainty after the initial layoff announcement.

Great Dane closed the letter by wishing employees a happy holiday season.

This is a developing local business update. Elysburg Live will continue to share verified information as it becomes available.

Ralpho Township Supervisor Vacancy Filled

At a special meeting held tonight, the Ralpho Township Supervisors met to fill a vacancy on the board following the resignation of Blaine Madera Jr., who stepped down after joining the Southern Columbia School Board.

Two lifelong Elysburg residents, Tim Vought and Justin Leffler, applied for the open position. The board conducted approximately 30 minutes of alternating qualifying questions for both candidates.

Following the questioning, a motion was made by Steve Major to appoint Justin Leffler to the board. The motion passed with a unanimous vote, with no abstentions.

Mr. Leffler was accompanied at the meeting by his wife, Jennifer.

I would like to sincerely apologize for the brief two-minute loss of video near the end of the stream. The extreme cold weather has been wreaking havoc on the camera batteries, and unfortunately I didn’t have enough capacity to capture the entire event without interruption. As soon as the battery failed, I swapped in a backup and resumed the broadcast as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your understanding, and I appreciate everyone who tuned in despite the conditions.

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts on our recent story. We know emotions run high when it comes to children and community safety. Our goal is always to provide accurate updates while respecting those affected.

The details we reported came directly from official sources — including emergency communications from Northumberland and Columbia Counties, a school district press release, and emergency responders on the scene.

Some have asked about our use of the term “mass casualty incident.” While it may sound alarming, this crash met the full definition of that phrase, and it was used exactly as emergency officials described it.

Elysburg Lives exists to keep our community informed. We don’t charge and we’re not paid for our posts — the only reward is knowing our neighbors have the information they need.
