Ask any photographer and they will tell you, it's all about the light. The right lighting sets the scene and makes the difference between ordinary and extraordinary. The same concept can be applied to your reception venue through the use of uplighting, one of the most popular add on for any wedding.
What, exactly, is uplighting? Uplighting consists of small, narrow beam lights placed around the perimeter of a room. They're put at the base of a wall or architectural feature and shine upward - thus the name. Anywhere from 15 to 40 lights can be used, depending on the size of the room. They add simple, affordable, elegance every time.
Not all lighting is equal. Most overhead lighting at a reception hall does a fair job of making a room bright, but rarely does it add dimension or sophistication. When we uplight a room we can often dim or eliminate the overhead lights and rely on the soft ambient glow of the uplights to fill-in the room. It's that soft glow that adds depth and class to a room and is why photographers love uplighting. It's amazing what a well lit backdrop can do for a photo. With that in mind, we advises couples to use a neutral color, rather than something too bold or rich. One of our favorites is what we call "champagne white. It's very subtle, but just makes rooms look stunning.
Lighting should be thought of like décor, so proper placement matters. You can have too many on one wall, or an improperly placed light can create unwanted shadows.
