Cead Mile Failte! A hundred thousand welcomes to Celtic Connections!

Prof. Ed Egan hosts “Celtic Connections” every Monday from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on WMTB, 89.9 FM and online at: www.msmary.edu/wmtb. The show explores the music of Ireland and its influence on and connections with other musical genres, including folk, country and bluegrass.

Egan was first introduced to Irish music as a child listening to his parents Clancy Brothers LPs. You might say he was "raised on songs and stories" - to borrow a phrase from Dublin songwriter, Pete St. John. During law school, when he wasn’t immersed in his legal studies, Ed immersed himself in the vibrant Irish music scene in the pubs and concert halls of Washington, D.C. Years later, he opened an award winning Irish pub that showcased some of Irish music’s most accomplished performers and also hosted a weekly traditional seisun.

At Mount St. Mary’s, in addition to directing the Pre-Law Program and teaching in the Political Science Department, Ed has taught a popular course entitled “Poets, Patriots, Playwrights and Players,” which explores the Irish Cultural Revival and the intersection of Irish poets, patriots, playwrights, and players (musicians) of the late 19th and 20th century with Irish nationalism and independence. In 2017, Ed led the Mount’s semester abroad in Dublin. He is delighted to share his love of Irish music on Celtic Connections!
