Three officers at Greensville Correctional Center were arrested following two separate incidents of reported violence at the prison last year.

The Virginia Department of Corrections has confirmed that three correctional officers were arrested in November 2024 for what a spokesperson called “use of force” incidents.

One officer was arrested for a violent incident which occurred on Nov. 1 and resulted in an inmate needing medical treatment outside of the prison.

The second incident happened on Nov. 21 and again ended with an inmate requiring hospitalization. Two correctional officers were arrested in that case.

The officers involved in each case were arrested after an investigation by the department’s Office of Law Enforcement Services.

“Please note that the VADOC has zero tolerance for abuse or excessive force of any kind,” a VADOC spokesperson wrote to the Independent-Messenger. “All claims of abuse are investigated, and disciplinary action is taken when those claims are substantiated.”

The spokesperson declined to answer questions about the officers’ current employment status and the charges they are facing.

“The VADOC does not routinely comment on individual employee disciplinary matters, in accordance with state personnel policies,” he said.
