Broome County announced that transit is shutting down their bus service early on Sunday.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and Public Transportation Commissioner Gregory Kilmer sent a press release on Sunday, May 31, saying bus service is shutting down immediately.

They say this is a precautionary measure taken for the safety of Broome County residents as road closures in downtown Binghamton are interrupting routes.

Additionally, they say service will resume Monday morning as scheduled.

The Town of Vestal declared a state of emergency on Sunday.

Chief Executive Shaffer said the state of emergency goes into effect Sunday, May 31 at 1:30 p.m. He also said it will remain in effect for thirty days or until revoked by a consequent order.

Chief Executive John Schaffer said in a press release, the state of emergency has been declared due to threats of violence and civil unrest within the Town of Vestal.

Additionally, Shaffer is directing all departments and agencies in the Town of Vestal to do whatever is necessary to protect people's lives, public infrastructure and necessary emergency assistance.

That "Deaf, Dumb and Blind Kid" is 51 years old today.

On May 23, 1969, The Who released their 4th album simply called "Tommy". The album was originally banned by the BBC and some U.S. radio stations because it was considered "sick and exploitive" due to the dark theme of child abuse.

In 1998, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for "historical, artistic and significant value." Upon its release in 1969, Life magazine declared, "For sheer power, invention and brilliance of performance, 'Tommy' outstrips anything that has ever come out of a rock recording studio."

In a 1971 interview, the bassist for The Who, the Late John Entwistle said,"I've grown to like it but it took us eight months altogether; six months recording, two months mixing. We had to do so many of the tracks again, because it took so long we had to keep going back and rejuvenating the numbers. It just started to drive us mad, we were getting brainwashed by the whole thing, and I started to hate it."

The Village of Johnson City's Mayor's Office announced there is a major water main break this afternoon on North Broad Street and Olive Street near The Can Man.

There is no boil water advisory at this time.

Additionally, village officials say there is no estimate for the time of repair
