We're excited to bring you Season 1 of The Connection Sessions, recorded exclusively at the world-renown Rudy Van Gelder Studio.
In this legendary studio, the one and only Rudy Van Gelder recorded countless iconic jazz albums for some of the greatest and most influential musicians in jazz: John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Woody Shaw, Billy Higgins, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley, and Freddie Hubbard, to name a few.
These artists all played various Conn Selmer brand instruments, such as: Bach Brass , King Brass, Ludwig Drums, Henri SELMER Paris Saxophones and Steinway & Sons.
Today Van Gelder is owned and operated by Maureen Sickler, Rudy Van Gelder's assistant of 30 years. Maureen graciously opened the studio to us for this series, and we can't wait to share it with all of you.

RELEASE ALERT 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

is proud to announce the release of Billy Drummond's first single from his upcoming album Valse Sinistre!
“The piece "Little Melonae" was written by Jackie McLean and arranged/conceived by our bassist, Dezron L Douglas (The Voice of Reason). Dezron is a disciple of Mr McLean and it is McLean who for me is the epitome of a purity in music that represents freedom in the true sense of the word. I have been a fan of his since my first memories of hearing music which was played by my father as a youngster. I played with Jackie on 2 occasions and it was a dream come true. One of my treasures is an inscription from him to me on one of his recordings that reads, "To Billy, one of my favorite drummers of all time". That is something I'll cherish all my days!
The track features Dayna Stephens on saxophone and Micah Thomas - piano

In1967, John Coltrane and drummer Rashied Ali were at the Rudy Van Gelder Studio recording a suite of improvised "...nakedly spiritual, often harshly ecstatic free-form duets between Coltrane’s tenor saxophone and Ali’s drums..." Seven years later Impulse Records released the session, under the name “Interstellar Space”. Learn more from the Rolling Stone review below.
in 1967, John Coltrane recorded some of his last tracks at Rudy Van Gelder Studio for the posthumous release Stellar Regions. In the album liner notes, David Wild from Impulse Records says: "To those of us who remain, the last words of one no longer among us are special... More importantly and perhaps even more compelling, they represent a suggestion of the evolution his music would have taken had his life not been cut so short, a tantalizing glimpse of an unrealized future... Change is the constant in Coltrane's work, and the evolution continued even to the last."

Last year, when NYC was completely shut down, this particular cast of my musical heroes got together to play on the streets of the . Mr. Wonsey called them “sparring” sessions that kept us in shape while the clubs were closed. After a couple months and winter setting in, we all got Covid tests and made a pilgrimage across the GW bridge to spend the afternoon recording at Rudy Van Gelder Studio.

Happy 60th Birthday Steven Bernstein !!!
You are a beacon of curiosity, fearlessness and humor.
Here’s a clip of the time you sat in with my orchestra Jazz Standard (overcoming the hurdle of playing my horn with MY mouthpiece - pre covid) on Duke Pearson’s “the Phantom” and crushed it.
We love you!
