An "extreme" drought has left regional water supplies dangerously low after two disappointing rainy seasons. Residents in Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, Hardee, Charlotte, and Highlands counties are limited to lawn watering just one day a week for a four-hour window.

Cape Coral’s Costly Leak: Old Pipe Waterfalls Under Local Bridge

A freshwater leak has been running for months under the bridge near Santa Barbara Boulevard and Cape Coral Parkway East. The culprit? An old, corroded, above-ground metal pipe worn out by sun, rain, and humidity.

While neighbors say they spotted it long ago and flooded 311 with calls, the city insists it's a "small leak". However, the fix is delayed because workers are waiting on a special order of six new valves. With strict watering restrictions in place, residents are growing frustrated over the wasted water.

Repairs are expected to wrap up within the month but expect temporary water shutoffs for nearby businesses and upcoming traffic delays on Cape Coral Parkway.
