Learning looks different for every student and sometimes the best learning happens beyond the classroom!

Today, Kareem’s Mission Community Center welcomed students from Harrisburg High School for a hands-on day of inclusive learning.

Students participated in:
Sensory Art to support creativity, self-expression, and sensory regulation.

Karaoke to build communication, confidence, and social skills.

Customized T-Shirt Design to practice decision-making, technology skills, and vocational readiness.

Workforce Development to strengthen workplace readiness, teamwork, communication, and responsibility.

Every activity helps students build independence, life skills, and confidence in a fun, supportive environment.

A huge thank-you to Chick-fil-A Mechanicsburg for sponsoring lunch for our students! Your support helps us create meaningful experiences for the students and families we serve.

School districts, special education programs, transition programs, and life-skills classrooms we would love to welcome your students next!

Kareem’s Mission Workforce Development Day with Deloitte!

What an amazing experience! A huge thank you to Deloitte, Marisa, and the entire team for hosting Kareem’s Mission for a day of learning, growth, and opportunity.

Participants learned about professional etiquette, interview skills, Business Chemistry, Deloitte 101, and experienced an office tour!

Special shoutout to The Cornerstone Agency of PA and Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) for the incredible work they do in our community and for helping us prepare young people of all abilities for the workforce.

We’re grateful for partnerships that create opportunities and prepare our young people for their future!

Studies show that boys are diagnosed with autism more often than girls. However, research suggests that autism may be underdiagnosed in girls, in part because it can present differently.

Historically, much of autism research and many diagnostic criteria were based on how autism presents in boys. Girls may also be more likely to mask or camouflage autistic traits in social situations, making signs less noticeable to others.

In girls, signs may include anxiety, perfectionism, difficulty maintaining long-term friendships, intense interests in animals or fictional characters, challenges around eating, sensory sensitivities, or meltdowns that happen primarily at home after holding things together throughout the day.

Recognizing the different ways autism can present is important. Greater awareness can help autistic girls receive an accurate diagnosis, understanding, and the individualized support they need to thrive.

Today, Kareem's Mission was proud to welcome our partner, CommunityAid Foundation, to utilize our podcast and recording studio.

Our Autism Support Community Center is more than a place; it is a shared community resource where organizations, families, professionals, and advocates can connect, create, educate, and amplify important voices.

From our podcast and recording studio to training spaces, family support, creative programming, sensory resources, and community partnerships, Kareem’s Mission continues to open its doors to ideas and initiatives that strengthen our community.

Because when we share space, resources, and purpose, impact grows. 💙
