UPDATE (12/16): ALDOT is working with their contractor to initiate the signal timing and controls. While this procedure began Monday, December 15, ALDOT and their contractor anticipate the work to continue into Tuesday, December 16. When ALDOT and their contractor feel that the light is ready to use, they will initiate the traffic signal to enable public use.

==
The long-anticipated traffic signal at the intersection of State Highway 27 and Shellfield Road is now in place and currently operating in flashing mode as installation work reaches completion. 🚦

The signal will become fully operational on Monday, marking a significant milestone in improving safety and traffic flow at one of Enterprise’s busiest corridors.

The flashing period draws attention to the light and allows drivers to adjust to the new traffic pattern before the full signal becomes active. Motorists are urged to be alert, reduce speed, and proceed with caution when traveling through the intersection.

“This project has been a priority for the City of Enterprise and for our residents for many years,” said Mayor William E. Cooper. “Seeing the new traffic signal installed is an important step forward for safety and mobility in this high-traffic area. We appreciate ALDOT’s partnership and ask drivers to be mindful as they travel through the intersection in the coming days.”

The new signal is part of the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program II (ATRIP-II). The City of Enterprise contributed to engineering and design costs, reaffirming the city’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure improvements that enhance public safety and support continued growth.

Once fully activated Monday, the signal is expected to improve traffic flow along Highway 27 and Shellfield Road, benefiting commuters traveling between Enterprise and Ozark as well as Fort Rucker personnel and local residents.

Drivers are reminded to watch for new traffic patterns and use extra caution during the transition period.

Due to forecasted inclement weather, and in coordination with guidance from the Coffee County Emergency Management Agency, City of Enterprise, Ala. leadership, and the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce, the City of Enterprise is postponing two major holiday events, the Enterprise Christmas Parade and the Whoville Celebration, to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, volunteers, vendors, and spectators.

The Enterprise Christmas Parade, originally scheduled for Thursday, December 4, will now take place Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Downtown Enterprise. Presented by Visit Enterprise, this year’s theme is “Christmas Around the World,” inviting floats, marching units, and performers to highlight holiday traditions from around the globe. Beloved blues musician and longtime Enterprise resident Lil’ Jimmy Reed will serve as Grand Marshal.

The Whoville Celebration 2025, previously scheduled for Saturday, December 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature festive vendors, family activities, inflatables, free face painting, and returning favorites including the Who Look-A-Like Contest and Max’s Pet Costume Contest. The Whoville Scavenger Hunt will also shift one week and will be held on the 20th.

While we understand these schedule updates may affect plans for some residents, visitors and vendors, the decision was made thoughtfully to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience possible for all.

Residents are encouraged to follow official City of Enterprise channels for updates regarding maps, vendor layouts, parking, schedules, and additional holiday announcements as the revised dates approach.

🎃 Halloween Safety Reminder for Drivers & Pedestrians 🎃

Halloween means more ghosts, goblins, and trick-or-treaters out and about tonight— so please use extra caution on the roads!

🚗 For Drivers:
1️⃣ Be alert for trick-or-treaters and pedestrians.
2️⃣ Slow down and scan the road — slower speeds save lives.
3️⃣ Watch for children in unexpected places; they may dart into the street without warning.
4️⃣ If you spot a drunk driver, contact law enforcement immediately.

🚶 For Pedestrians:
5️⃣ Use a “buddy system” — don’t walk alone.
6️⃣ Follow traffic rules and obey all signs and signals.
7️⃣ Cross only at crosswalks or intersections and look in all directions, including for turning cars.

Let’s keep Halloween fun and safe for everyone. 🎃👻
