Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian novel by Ray Bradbury that paints a bleak picture of a society where books are banned and “firemen” burn any that are found. The story is set in a city in future American where intellectualism is suppressed, and critical thinking is discouraged. The protagonist, Guy Montag, is a fireman who, ironically, starts questioning the oppressive regime he serves after an encounter with a free-spirited young woman named Clarisse. Montag begins to grapple with the significance of literature and the consequences of a society that stifles intellectual curiosity.
