"Dance is at the forefront of Hell's Kitchen, and in a world where the singer always steals the show, it’s wonderful to see a musical that relies on choreography to reveal depth of character. The ensemble does not simply do cool moves around and behind the “stars.” They embody the internal conflicts of the protagonists in a way I’ve never experienced. They externalize the emotions, and I applaud everyone who was responsible for this decision, as well as the incredible dancers who executed it. Choreographer Camille A. Brown so brilliantly tilts the theatrical scale away from the lead vocalists and paints a picture that is far more balanced."

"At the center of it all is Zach Flock as John Merrick, who delivers a performance so physically and emotionally demanding it’s almost painful to watch...and I mean that in a very positive way. Without a trace of prosthetics or makeup, Flock contorts his face and body into shapes that defy logic, embodying Merrick’s deformities through sheer craft. He somehow makes the character both tragic and wickedly funny, using his sharp comedic timing to bring levity to a story that could easily drown in sorrow. Someone please book this man a chiropractor and a deep tissue massage when the run ends. He’s earned it."
