There was a man who prepared a huge buffet dinner and invited many to come and partake. All those who were invited decided amongst themselves that they would all refuse the man's invitation because they were busy building their new lives as landowners and business owners and some were newly married. They decided this man's invitation to dine and fellowship with him did not warrant them taking time away from these endeavors and began using those blessings as excuses for not attending the buffet. When the man realized this, he sent for the less fortunate of the town to be brought to dine and fellowship with him. When this had been done, there was still room. So, the man sent for those who were passing through town to stop and come to dinner. He was determined to fill his house so that those who refused his initial invitation, could not later just show up and find a seat at the table. This man wanted to bless those within his network and was obviously a man of great means. We know this because he had the ability to provide space and food for so many people that he had to actually look for and find more folks to bless with a meal and good company. The initially-invited guests missed their opportunity to fellowship with the man by allowing their blessing to be their purpose. Make a list of the things in your life that you recognize as blessings from God. Are you allowing any of them to become the "god" of your life?

Erie church selling 'fight breast cancer' T-shirts

Help my 12 year old niece, Hannah, raise funds to support the fight against cancer. She's doing this in the memory of my mother-in-law (her grandmother) First Lady Mary L. Ulmer of the Mt. Ebal Missionary Baptist Church in Erie, PA and in honor of our aunt (Mary Alice Ulmer) pictured below who has been winning her battle with breast cancer for nine years now. Some of you called me on the Morning Glory phone line and enquired about today's Word to the Wise I shared on-air. Mrs. Laura Turner gave it to me. She had printed it out beautifully and passed one out to each person in attendance at a breakfast gathering I went to with my mother several years ago.

Here it is:

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd - That’s relationship!
I shall not want - That’s supply!
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures - That’s rest!

He leadeth me beside the still waters - That’s refreshment!
He restoreth my soul - That’s healing!
He leadeth me in the path of righteousness - That’s guidance!
For His name’s sake - That’s purpose!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, - That’s testing!
I will fear no evil - That’s protection!
For thou art with me - That’s faithfulness!
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me - That’s peace!
