Overmountain Victory Trail Association JOIN! Get involved! Our region is instrumental in winning national freedom!

Saturday Aug 30 at 10 am at the Yadkin Valley Heritage and Trails Visitor Center, 257 Standard Street, Elkin, NC, OVTA will have our one of our yearly Firelock Safety trainings.

We will start with classroom instructions. Then go to the range to shoot with powder only. Please bring your firelock and accountments. OVTA will provide powder.

Spread the word to any OVTA members that want this training. Invite some new members.If you have this training before, you need to take it again. Only good for a year.

Remember, you have to have this training to shoot with OVTA.

JONESBOROUGH – Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Eric Brian Rayon, 39, and charged him with Violation of Order of Protection, Aggravated Assault and False Imprisonment on Aug. 15.

According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, Deputies responded to an Aggravated Assault in the 200 block of Pendleton Smith Road around 7 p.m. Rayon advised Deputies he ran out of gas and contacted the victim for assistance. He then told Deputies that the victim took him to get gas and then, when he took the victim’s car keys, the victim brandished a firearm at him.

Deputies made contact with the victim, who advised she brought a tire and fuel to Rayon and while on scene he took her keys and began choking her. At that point, she was in fear of her safety and retrieved a handgun. At that point, Rayon gave her the keys to her vehicle and she was able to flee. Marks on the victim were indicative of an assault as she described. Multiple voice mails with Rayon threatening the victim were also provided to Deputies.

Rayon was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. He will appear in court on Aug. 18.

TENNESSEE HIGHWAY SAFETY OFFICE PROMOTES “SAFER ON 11W” CAMPAIGN

State, Local Law Enforcement Increase Traffic Safety Enforcement on Highway 11W on Aug. 29 through Labor Day
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On Friday, Aug. 22, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) will join Tennessee
Highway Patrol, Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office, Bean Station Police Department, and other traffic safety
partners for a press event to announce the upcoming “Safer on 11W” campaign. Highway 11W is a U.S. route
spanning 120 miles from Knoxville to Bristol, connecting several East Tennessee communities along the way.
During “Safer on 11W,” participating law enforcement agencies will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Highway 11W
from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 29. Increased traffic enforcement will continue on Highway 11W from Aug. 29
through Labor Day, Sept 1. During the press event, speakers will discuss recent crash data and safe driving tips
to help keep Tennessee roadways safe.

Skyla Cheng was last seen on April 13th, 2025.

She is described as a now 17-year-old female who is 5’ 6” tall and 110 lbs with brown hair and brown eyes.
