Vol 28. “The Church, Scriptures and the Sacraments”

It’s an unique work since it deals with one of the most important topics in Theology. The Church, where there is not salvation outside of her. John Owen have a gigantic defense on how the Church its the one who was charged to administer the mystery of Christ. He dying for sinners and bringing them to glory and communion with God. It’s from the Church that the signs and seals of the Covenant of grace flow to the saints. And it’s from the Sacraments that the saints are nourish and edified but nothing else administers them but the Church. This volume offers a pastoral discourses in how to deal with sin in the practical arena and provides great insight in considering how we should face it and mortifying it. Offers pastoral warnings when failing in habitual sin and how to be delivered from such traps of the deceitfulness of sin.

As part of the Westminster Seminary California Student Association Convocation Lectures. We had the honor to welcome Dr. J. V. Fesko Associate Professor of Systematic & Historical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson. It was 10 years that Dr.J.V. Fesko taught as an associate professor here in Westminster Seminary from 2009 - 2019.

He is addressing the topic the Nicene Creed and Christian Virtue. Stressing that Christian Virtue it’s impossible to separate from the Knowledge of God. This two cannot be separate. Christian Living must flourish from our theology. What we believe of God and the Christian Faith its needs to be mirror through our life’s. In our modern times theology is treated as a one more of so many disciplines of thought. Theology is secularized by modernity and it becomes one more sphere of intelectual knowledge without a radical effect in our Christian practices. Dr. Fesko reminds us that the depth and richness of the Nicene Theology couldn’t be separated from the godly lives of its authors.

How often the clouds of sin separate us from seeing God, such the ones who pursue the purity of heart and longs to seek and know God would never achieve such a duty without allowing that the Gospel truths reshaped his life. Living a sinful lifestyle without repentance, and at the same time acting as we are knowing God through theology is not a substitute for true living faith and Christian practice, such realities are dichotomy.

P.S. Very blessed to have Dr.Fesko taking the time to sign my books. 🙌🏻t

~ The Complete Works of John Owen Vol 9 ~

We have one more volume that recently it’s been published by Crossway books. On the Death of Christ. It’s a wonderful volume that sheds light particularly on the atonement of Christ for the elect.

In this volume John Owen exposition on for whom did Christ was crucified? Deals with topics such as universal atonement and describes the implications of who Arminianism denies the particular atonement that its only for the elect. John Owen argues that the death of Christ was on the basis of the Covenantal character such as for the Israel of God. Pastoral, devotional and great for a good theological reading on the nature of the benfits. One important theme is that through the Death of Christ, death came to the curse of death and the death of Christ put to death our sin. Such a gem of book, try to do a slow reading one page a day and will be highly beneficial for your soul!

Old Testament Introduction 📚 🔥

The Old Testaments lenguage and literature it’s commonly to be approached as difficult to understand for the lay beliver or new convert. But why? Mainly because it was written for a particular time and for a particular group people and culture.

Long time ago l, in the ancient world, during the Ancient Near East era 4,000 B.C It’s understandable why such difficulties.

As Christians, who confess Scripture is the infallible and inspired Word of God it is our goal to comprehend faitfully the entirety of scripture. And one way to clear the fog when approaching the Old Testament is by having access to works that introduce the audience to it was written, the lenguage, political context, social context and intentions behind the text.

Dr. Michael Barret provides a gift to the Church by publishing “Old Testament Introduction”. Timely to help parishioners understand and enjoy more the O.T. scriptures. Having his students in mind, makes this work reachable to the necessities of a seminary student but also to the lay believers. Comparing to diverse works on O.T. is not a heavy weighty volume that will overwhelmed you by its technical or academic language. With the heart and pen of a minister of the Gospel you will be greatly benefited by his writing.
