Shoutout to for this VZ Chassis Open Class build. Try them out if you’re interested! They ship via DHL from the Philippines.

I’m finally starting to get it set up and just threw on these wheels from that I picked up a few months ago. I’ve been wanting to explore Open Class more, so this VZ is going to be part of that learning process.

Still have some tuning and setup to do, but I’ll post the final results next week once I get more time on the bench.

If you’ve built or raced a VZ Open Class car, drop your setup recommendations in the comments. I’d love to hear what’s worked for you.

And if you’re running a VZ Open too, let me know. I want to see what everyone else is building.

Still one of my favorite chassis to build and race.

The VZ is light, responsive, easy to work on, and gives you a lot of freedom with setup. That short 80mm wheelbase helps it rotate well, while the removable bumpers and mounting options make it easy to experiment as your build evolves.

But this Grasshopper hits different for me.

The Grasshopper was both my first RC car and my first Mini 4WD car. My dad got them for me back in the ’80s, so every time I build one, there’s a little bit of that childhood memory attached to it.

That’s probably why I keep coming back to this one.

Simple chassis. Classic car. A lot of history.

What Mini 4WD or RC car takes you straight back to when you were a kid?

TAMIYA… can we get an English edition too?
TamiyaBlog TamiyaUSA

The Mini 4WD Super Speed Guide looks packed with tuning ideas, builds, setups, and details I’d love to understand better.

And I want to be clear, I love that this is a Japanese publication. Mini 4WD comes from Japan, and that history is part of what makes the hobby special.

But with racers all over the world now…

Would you buy an official English translation of the Super Speed Guide?

Comment below:

YES = I’d buy it immediately

BILINGUAL = Japanese + English would be even better

ORIGINAL = I’m happy collecting the Japanese edition

And if you already own one, what section would you want translated first?

Let’s see how big the international Mini 4WD crowd really is.

Share and tag to have this make notice!

Tamiya, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

MS Bumperless Front Update 🔧

Part 2

I went back and updated my MS front bumperless setup after getting a lot of solid feedback on Part 1.

Yusri and several others in the Mini 4WD community pointed out a better way to stack the roller hardware so we’re not putting unnecessary stress on the bearings. I tested the suggestions, made the changes, and filmed the updated build.

This is exactly why I share these tutorials.

I’m still learning too, and when someone in the community has a better way to do something, I’d rather fix it and pass it on than pretend I got it right the first time.

Huge thank you to everyone who chipped in with tips and explanations. 🤝

Here’s the updated MS bumperless front setup.

And if you see something else we can improve, drop it in the comments. That’s how we all get better.

Build it right. Race with integrity. Elevate the hobby.
