Check out those double devil tines and the antler stuck in his neck!
He’s very recognizable by that white patch of fur by his eye.
The comments on yesterday’s post honestly surprised me. So many people were upset that I didn’t try to pull the antler out, and I think it’s important to remember that these are wild animals.
This is simply part of the reality of the elk rut. He doesn’t appear to be suffering, and right now he has one thing on his mind… cows! 😂 There’s a very good chance that antler will fall out on its own.
As hard as it can be to watch, nature doesn’t always look pretty. There isn’t a veterinarian to call or an ambulance to take him to the hospital. The best thing we can do is observe, respect their space, and let nature take its course.
I’ve seen bulls recover from much worse, and this guy is out there doing exactly what elk do during the rut.
