They often come later than they should. And almost nobody feels prepared for them. Our family learned that firsthand when we began noticing signs of dementia in my mother-in-law, Nathalie. At 78, Nathalie was not someone who saw herself as old, but after turning 70, she had started to deal with a lot of health issues, from the aches and pains of arthritis to cancer, dental and vision problems, and depression....

Gas prices cooled a bit as crude oil prices stay below $100 a barrel

Gasoline prices continued to edge lower this week across Colorado and the nation, offering motorists some relief as summer travel season gets underway. However, local drivers in Estes Park are still paying significantly more than the state and national averages. According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell to $4.19, down 18 cents from a week ago and marking the second consecutive weekly decline....

Jurors begin weighing evidence in federal tax fraud case against Predmore and co-defendants

A federal prosecutor told jurors Thursday that Estes Park resident Marcie Predmore and three co-defendants knowingly participated in an abusive trust scheme designed to help clients evade federal taxes despite repeated warnings that the arrangement violated federal law. Closing arguments in the five-week trial concluded shortly after 4:30 p.m. in U.S. District Court before Judge Regina M. Rodriguez after a full day of presentations from prosecutors and defense attorneys....

Solé brings elevated dining, rooftop views to downtown Estes Park

The new Solé Rooftop Cantina and Tequila Bar in Estes Park, which opened May 14, raises the bar for dining with a view. Whether seated on the shaded third-floor rooftop on a sunny afternoon, gathered around a firepit after sunset, or relaxing in the elegant second-floor lounge, diners are surrounded by sweeping views and carefully crafted design. On a recent evening, a party of three visiting from Indianapolis and Detroit arrived after a day of hiking and settled in for dinner overlooking Bond Park, downtown Estes Park, and snow-capped peaks on the horizon....
