Park Hosptial Board feeling its way

In their first meeting since UCHealth took over operations of Estes Park Health, the Park Hospital District Board met Thursday, Dec. 11. Cory Workman, who was elected to the Park Hospital Board in 2023, told his fellow Board members, “This is kind of like our first day in college, right? Like we’re in the Park Hospital District. We’re out on our own now, and we’re trying to figure out where to go, where’s the commissary, where’s the bookstore, and where do we buy ramen?...

Shane Atkinson looks to serve Larimer County as a County Commisioner

Shane Atkinson says his experiences as an educator, a policy analyst and constituent advocate for U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, and his role as legislative affairs coordinator for Larimer County, have prepared him to serve as one of three County Commissioners. “Because I’ve worked in this office for the last three years in the policy space, I can legitimately say I will hit the ground running on day one and get to work,” Atkinson told the Estes Valley Voice in an interview last week....

Despite uphill climb, Bottoms is optimistic about chances in governor’s race

Scott Bottoms believes that if he can secure the GOP nomination as the gubernatorial candidate, he can win the Colorado governor’s race. To win the nomination, he has to beat out 20 other Republican candidates including Sen. Barb Kirkenmeyer, who is leading the pack with fundraising and has been referred to as the front runner by some media analysts, including Ashley Michel of…...

Members of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish in Estes Park gathered on Thursday evening for a vigil prayer service to mark what many Catholics venerate as the Miracle of Guadalupe, accompanied by drumming, dancing, and singing in the church’s sanctuary. The evening began at 6 p.m. with the rosary, a Catholic devotional practice that is used to meditate on the miracles in the life of Jesus....

Letter to the Editor

Paradise Lost Another ho-hum day in Paradise… you’ll see this on bumper stickers around Estes, and in many ways it’s true… because we’re insulated from many of the ills that plague Colorado. I’ve been circulating petitions for three initiatives we hope to get on the ballot for voters to decide on in ’26. They’re all about protecting kids. They’re not political issues, rather moral ones....

Jane Austen fans to celebrate author’s 250th birthday

In polite society, you’re not supposed to talk about how old a lady is, but a week from today – Dec. 16 – Macdonald Book Shop is partnering with SereniTea and the Estes Valley Library to celebrate the semiquincentennial anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth with a talk, trivia contest, and a high tea. If you think you’ve heard the word 'semiquincentennial,' which means 250th, tossed around recently, you probably have, because the United States is gearing up for its semiquincentennial in 2026, and the Centennial State is going to celebrate its sesquicentennial....
