Improper microphone technique is such a common issue with inexperienced performers and speakers.

One thing to understand first and foremost is that live sound is inherently messy. There’s a lot of noise and junk in the background that you really don’t want to amplify. What’s worse is feedback from having the microphones gained too hot. One solution for feedback is to “ring out” the PA, but that can only do so much before the feedback is almost inevitable due to improper mic technique.

Fortunately, the proper way is very easy and can be quickly explained by a diagram or short conversation with your live tech. Do not be afraid to ask for help or advice! We’re working together!
