I have zero love for Kanye West. I had read the interview he did with TucK*Ker Carlson, and the only thing he said in that interview that actually stood out as true and accurate to me is the following:
“And for politicians, all Black people are worth is an approval rating,” he added. “The Democrats feel that they don’t owe us anything. And Republicans feel that they don’t owe us anything. Blacks have never demanded something for our vote.”
I have said time and time again that the Democratic Party uses POC and at-risk communities when they need their support, but where are those politicians when they need the Politicians' support? It's really simple, politics is a game of numbers. Numbers determine winners and losers in a political race, and numbers determine the outcomes of POC and at-risk communities and their lives. Spoiler alert: white politicians don't actually care what happens to these communities, as long as they can get them to turn out in numbers and produce enough numbers to tip an election in their favor.
Every time I see a POC, a pro-choice person (RMC), or someone in the LGBTQIA+ community at a GOP convention, I can't help but wonder what the GOP has to offer that is so alluring to them. Is it the hate for access to abortion? Is it that the white crowd loves the confederate flag - and keeping brown babies in cages? And to be clear, I mean the 'X' with stars and s**t - not the white surrender one that was used later. Is it the foaming-mouth poison that is spewed while they fight to reverse equal marriage access and make being gay in America illegal?
Maybe Kanye's 'White Lives Matter' shirt is intended to point out the disparity of value of white lives vs black and brown lives. But the message sounds much different when he's buddies with Trump - a white man who loves keeping brown babies in cages.
Some of this reminds me of the Dave Chappelle skit about Clayton Bigsby, an important member of the K*K who gets unmasked as a blind black man who doesn't know he's black.
