Been here a few times, and I must say it has a special feeling, knowing the greats started in that little studio
🎙️ 76 Years of Sun Records – Where Rock ’n’ Roll Was Born 🎙️
On January 3, 1950, Sun Records was founded in Memphis by visionary producer Sam Phillips. What started as Memphis Recording Service would soon change music history forever.
🔸 Early 1950s – Sam Phillips opens his studio to anyone with a sound and a dream, breaking racial barriers and capturing raw, honest music straight from the heart.
🔸 1953–1954 – A young truck driver named Elvis Presley walks into the studio. His first recordings ignite a revolution.
🔸 Mid-1950s – Sun becomes home to legends: Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison.
🔸 The Sound – Echo, slap-back delay, grit, and attitude: Sun defines the blueprint of rockabilly, rock ’n’ roll, and modern popular music.
🔸 Legacy – Though many artists later moved on to major labels, the Sun sound remains timeless and influential across generations.
From a small studio on Union Avenue to the birth of a global musical movement, Sun Records didn’t just record music — it made history.
