I often laud the notion of an all-encompassing beef industry mindset, but this episode's guest lives it every day. He and his family own and/or operate in all segments of the beef industry: farming, cow-calf, feeding and packing.

I tell folks that I like pods that feel like you're eavesdropping on a great conversation at the end of a bar, and that's about how this one felt.

Five minutes into a happenstance conversation with my friend, Bill Rishel, Jerry Bohn came by and said, "This looks like it'd be a great podcast!" So we hit Record, and did just that.

The older I get, the more I like learning from those older than I, so I really enjoyed this one. I'm pretty sure that you will, too.

We only covered two topics this time, but they were both important ones.

Don Schiefelbein is President of Schiefelbein Farms, Kimball, MN. Given the fact that they have 15 family members who provide labor, management and ownership of this multi-generation business, we had a thorough discussion about estate planning, transition and communication.

And since Don served as president of both the largest breed association and the largest cattlemen's organization within a few years of each other, we then had a thorough discussion about authenticity in leadership, member engagement and his father's belief that "if you aren't willing to put in the time, you don't have a right to say anything."

Check it out wherever you listen! You'll be glad you did.

Some days, it's tough to be married to a rancher. It's even tougher when said rancher has a podcast... and cons you into joining him for an episode!
Listen in as Amy and I talk spousal communication, time prioritization, communication and a whole host of not-so-romantic parts of ranch relationships.
