We're super bummed! This is/was a great local program!

This week on Headline Humboldt, all good things come to an end. And because of cuts made by President Donald Trump and the GOP in Congress, this is the final episode of Headline Humboldt.

We’re joined by local political commentator Eric Kirk to consider the moment, weigh the stakes, and highlight the long slow strangling of free speech that’s now under way in these once United States.

Watch this Last Episode Tonight at 7pm on YouTube, the PBS APP, and the KEET Livestream.

Kinetic Universe transforms the historic Ferndale Racetrack into a wonderland of human-powered contraptions, theatrical chaos, and mud-slinging spectacle.

Step aside, ordinary. The first Saturday at the Humboldt County Fair is where elegance and eccentricity collide in one jaw-dropping day of fashion, flair, and full-throttle fun.

The Kinetic Obstacle Exhibition Derby (KO-ED) roars to life as Kinetic Universe transforms the historic Ferndale Racetrack into a wonderland of human-powered contraptions, theatrical chaos, and mud-slinging spectacle. It’s a full day of absurd artistry, outrageous engineering, and crowd-fueled creativity:

🕜 1:30 PM – Pageantry Parade
Dance, drama, and DIY dazzle as kinetic teams strut their costumed creativity.

🕝 2:30 PM – Rutabaga Royalty Hobby Kinetic Kreature Race
Stick-creature racing like you've never seen. Whimsical chaos with crowning flair.

🕞 3:30 PM – Ladies Hat Day Competition
A time-honored Humboldt County Fair tradition with a fabulous twist! From bold brims to outlandish fascinators, headwear takes center stage as competitors vie for fashion glory—and big prizes.
💰 Grand Prize: $1000
💰 First Runner-Up: $500
💰 Second Runner-Up: $250
(Please, no baseball caps or everyday hats—this competition is for the absurd and fantastical!)

🕔 5:00 PM – Kinetic Obstacle Exhibition Derby Main Event
Mud pits. Hay bale zigzags. Hecklers. Hills. The KO-ED brings kinetic racing to its rowdiest peak in a no-holds-barred test of endurance, ingenuity, and flair—running until 8:00 PM or until the last sculpture survives.

Whether you’re there to wear wild, race weird, or cheer on the spectacle, Saturday is your chance to experience the Humboldt County Fair like never before.

Ready to be part of the magic?
Enter the Hat Competition day of or register for the KO-ED on our website at www.humboldtcountyfair.org - and let the glamour and madness begin!
