Review of Always Time: Bahá’í Pioneering Adventures in Honduras

“A Worthwhile Read - Honest and Heartfelt
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a very well-written book, providing both factual background and stories of just-in-the-nick-of-time aid from the Concourse on High. The Cornells went pioneering some 50 years ago at the suggestion of Ruhiyyih Khanum, and raised three children in that environment as they served the Honduran people. Their experiences led them to seek advanced degrees in the field of bilingual education and to establish a fine school in Honduras, the El Alba Bilingual School. It is a book of fear and resolution; doubt and confirmation; crisis and resolution through hard work, fervent prayer and seizing opportunities. This book has a lot of heart and honesty, and gets into the nitty-gritty of what pioneers worldwide experience daily. It’s a marvelous record of fifty years of service to the Lord of Hosts, replete with faith and humor. Highly recommended for general reading, as gifts for youth planning to homefront pioneer in unfamiliar and scary surroundings and aspiring foreign pioneers.”

In this book, author Howard Colby Ives offers us a remarkably candid and honest description of his own personal spiritual search as a Unitarian minister struggling with questions of faith and spirituality. His search ultimately led him to a discovery of the Baha’i Faith just a short time before ‘Abdu’l-Bahá arrived in North America in 1912 on a quest to share the teachings and vision of his father with the people of the West.

Wave Watcher is a beautifully written book of life with all of its vicissitudes. The characters are so warm and real; you can’t help falling in love with them. It was the sweetest book ever. You’ll want to read it more than once.”

His thoughts keep him awake-especially tonight, exactly one year after the terrible devastating event that changed his life forever. Agnes Baldwin Alexander pioneered the Bahá’í Faith to Hawaii, Japan and South Korea, was guided by the Central Figures, learned Esperanto to connect with people around the world, served on many Bahá’í institutions and was appointed a Hand of the Cause of God.

‘Abdu’l-Baha wrote of her: “I declare by the Lord of Hosts that had this respected daughter founded an empire, that empire would not have been so great,” and described her as “the daughter of the Kingdom, the beloved maid-servant of the Blessed Perfection.”

Description of Sometimes I Made Him Laugh, written by Linda Ahdieh Grant and illustrated by Reina Hirano

Saichiro Fujita loved ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and made the aim of his entire life to be of service to Him. He was a source of great joy to everyone. He was faithful, capable, and full of laughter.

Once someone asked Fujita what he did for ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. He replied, “I never felt that I could do very much for ‘Abdu’l-Bahá.” Then, after a pause, he added, “Sometimes I made Him laugh.”

This is Fujita-san’s story. It is told through the words of a youthful gardener from Papua New Guinea named Mia, and shared with Paolo, a 10-year-old boy from Brazil.

The book features the amazing stories of the Knights of Bahá’u’lláh, whose indomitable spirit, courage and steadfastness brought the Bahá’í message to countries where it was previously unknown.

Why would a legal counsel with the rank of brigadier general in the Department of Defence go to a desolate island with just a few score inhabitants? Where it was so hot that he cooked his eggs on rocks on the beach and so isolated that the arrival of an eggplant on the tide was the cause of celebration?

Why would a young doctor give up a potential job that included a nice house, servants, car and driver and a good salary, for a job paying just $25 a month in a place where the toilet was two boards placed over a stream full of water snakes?

These and other stories of indomitable spirit, courage, steadfastness and self-abnegation are the subject of this book on the Knights of Bahá’u’lláh, those Bahá’ís who left their homes to bring the message of Bahá’u’lláh to countries and territories where it was unknown, and whose names are inscribed on Shoghi Effendi’s Roll of Honor. They came from over two dozen countries scattered over the earth representing every continent; 131 of them were men and 126 women. The oldest left home at the age of 85, while the youngest was a youth no older than 14. They endured loneliness and made sacrifices, and in so doing experienced the greatest adventure of their lives.
