Happy Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe! On this date in 1531, St. Juan Diego presented roses to the bishop and the image of Our Lady was imprinted on his tilma. She is the patron saint of Mexico, the Americas and the Philippines.

"Hear, and let it pe*****te into your heart. Let nothing discourage you, nothing depress you. Let nothing alter your heart or your countenance. Also, do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain. Am I not here who am your mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the fold of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else that you need? Pray the Rosary daily. Trust in Jesus."
-Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego

Today is the feast of Pope St. Damasus I. He encouraged St. Jerome to translate the Bible into a more accurate version of Latin that became known as the Vulgate.

"He who walking on the sea could calm the bitter waves, who gives life to the dying seeds of the earth; he who was able to loose the mortal chains of death, and after three days' darkness could bring again to the upper world the brother for his sister Martha: he, I believe, will make Damasus rise again from the dust."
-St. Damasus I

Today is the feast of the Translation of the Holy House. According to legend, angels moved the house where the Holy Family lived to protect it during the Crusades. It first moved from Nazareth to Trsat, Croatia in 1291 and to Loreto, Italy a few years later.

"As Mary and Jesus are the model-love of mother and children and of Christians and Christ, so she is the inspiration of a home. The principal difference between a house and a home is a child. In a house individuals dwell; in a home the family lives. There are more persons in a boardinghouse or hotel than in a home, but since there is no deep unifying bond of love, the group never makes the family. The two principal virtues of a home are consecration on the part of parents and obedience on the part of the children."
-Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

"Why have God and the Church taken such measures to preserve this house? Because it is the site of the Incarnation! Tradition holds that Mary was born and raised in the Holy House, and that it was in that house that the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin, and the Word became flesh. It is a house of supernatural wonders!"
-Father Donald Calloway

“I am a nobody, I am a small rope, a tiny ladder, the tail end, a leaf.”
-St. Juan Diego

Happy feast of the Immaculate Conception! This is the day when Catholics celebrate the Virgin Mary's conception and her being preserved from the stain of original sin. Pope Pius IX declared this to be an infallible teaching in 1854.

"Let all the children of the Catholic Church, who are so very dear to us, hear these words of ours. With a still more ardent zeal for piety, religion and love, let them continue to venerate, invoke and pray to the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother ...of God, conceived without original sin. Let them fly with utter confidence to this most sweet Mother of mercy and grace in all dangers, difficulties, needs, doubts and fears. Under her guidance, under her patronage, under her kindness and protection, nothing is to be feared; nothing is hopeless."
-Blessed Pope Pius IX

"Now if you who are an imperfect being and who have not the most delicate conception of all that is fine in life would have wished for the loveliest of mothers, do you think that our Blessed Lord, who not only pre-existed His own mother but who had an infinite power to make her just what He chose, would in virtue of all the infinite delicacy of His spirit make her any less pure and loving and beautiful than you would have made your own mother? If you who hate selfishness would have made her selfless and you who hate ugliness would have made her beautiful, do you not think that the Son of God, who hates sin, would have made His own mother sinless and He who hates moral ugliness would have made her immaculately beautiful?”
-Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

"I am the Immaculate Conception."
-Our Lady of Lourdes to St. Bernadette

A prayer to end the Immaculate Conception novena:

Dear Lord Jesus, I have specific requests that may only partially fill the infinite needs and desires that are in my heart. I ask that You answer me not only for those requests but also for a greater reliance on You to satisfy the needs and desires that You have given me. Please grant the prayers of all those who prayed this novena with me. Bless them with Your love and make them holy! May I seek You with a sincere heart knowing that it will profit me nothing if I gain the whole world yet lose my soul. So, help me to see Your good and gracious purpose in all my trials. Help me to see Your blessings in every day and help me to love You more. Thank You for everything, Lord Jesus! Amen.

Today is the feast of St. Ambrose, the bishop of Milan, a Church Father and one of the four original Doctors of the Church. He baptized St. Augustine. According to legend, bees entered his cradle and left a drop of honey in his mouth as an infant. He is the patron saint of bee keepers, bees, candle makers, learning, Milan and students.

"Formerly a lamb was offered, a calf was offered. Christ is offered today...and he offers himself as priest in order that he may remit our sins: here in image, there in truth where, as our advocate, he intercedes for us before the Father."

"It is not enough just to wish well; we must also do well."
-St. Ambrose

Today is the feast of St. Nicholas, the bishop of Myra who is the inspiration for Santa Claus. He helped defeat the A***n heresy that denied the divinity of Christ. He became so mad at Arius that he punched or slapped him. According to legend, he anonymously gave a man three dowries so he could marry off his daughters by either placing the money in their shoes or dropping it in the chimney. He is the patron saint of children, coopers, sailors, fishermen, merchants, broadcasters, the falsely accused, repentant thieves, pharmacists, archers, brewers and pawnbrokers.

"The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic God's giving, by grace, through faith, and this is not of ourselves."
-St. Nicholas

Today is the feast of Blessed Philip Rinaldi. He was a Salesian priest who met St. John Bosco when he was five. He later helped found the Volunteers of Don Bosco.

“What must you do to have life? Before all else, the first thing you have to do is pray for courage every day to carry the cross the Lord has assigned you. Then let each of you do your own work really well, the work proper to your state, as God wants it, and according to your condition.”
-Blessed Phillip Rinaldi
