Where the River Frowns Anti-establishment news, culture and analysis from Evansville, Indiana Or better yet, email us with a pitch about the work you are interested in submitting.

Where the River Frowns features anti-establishment news, analysis and culture from Evansville, Indiana and the tri-state region. We highlight the stories, voices and innovations of those on the margins—the ones who come home tired from working a sh*tty job and still find the energy to create something beautiful. The ones who find their back against the wall and still find creative and liberatory w

ays to respond or fight back against the desolate world we inhabit. We are interested in articles on current events, prisons and jails, state repression, radical/counter-cultural movements, race, rebellion/resistance/insurrection, radical history, addiction and substance abuse, anti-fascism, mental illness, gentrification, poverty, animal rights, theory, gender, and other topics. Please send submissions of your analysis, critique, research, first-hand account, report-back, book/zine/album review, memoir, essay, editorial/opinion, creative writing, photography and video. We are not interested in content not originating from or directly impacting this region, topics already well covered by the mainstream media, promotion of political candidates, overly academic materials, or articles amplifying the voices of those holding power, of those whose voices are already well heard or of top-down organizations. ANTI-FASCIST FALL FEST GUIDE: "Evansville is a diverse and affirming town; and each year Fall Fest brings out people from all walks of life. Unfortunately, not all the vendors at Fall Fest support your basic human rights. We've compiled a list of all the Fall Fest vendors who are pro-LGBT, pro-choice, and don't dehumanize immigrants. Spend wisely!"

Join the Sierra Club, Solar United Neighbors, and Direct Action Against CenterPoint Energy in Evansville on September 21st for an afternoon of action!

We will start at the CK Newsome Community Center at 2:00pm for "Building Community: Let's Talk about Energy Justice" where we will learn about the impacts of coal burning in our community, and how that has led to high utility rates, environmental pollution, and public health impacts folks face here in Southwest Indiana.

Then meet us in front of the CenterPoint Energy building to advocate for moving beyond coal, investing in solar energy, and doing what is right for customers! CenterPoint is in their 20-year energy planning process and now is the time where we can make our voices heard and tell CenterPoint to do the right thing: move beyond coal, and invest in renewable energy!
