Olyvia is the lead graphic designer at News 4U and is instrumental in the production of the magazine each month. Every year she dives headfirst into the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival food scene and shares her own reviews. It's a tradition sheโs incredibly passionate about. She used to share them only on Snapchat, but this year, weโre excited to bring her flavor-packed coverage to this page, News 4U and Fingers, Fork, Knife & Spoon Evansville! Watch for daily posts about her Fall Fest Culinary Adventures!
Hereโs a look back at Day 1:
๐๏ธ Sampler at Grace of Christ Church mission in Ukraine
Booth 121, $12.00
The Mission Ukraine booth has a wide selection of unique, eastern European foods. The sampler comes with 4 of their best sellers.
- Varenyky: This is basically a dumpling stuffed with creamy mashed potatoes. A solid, simple snack choice.
- Pelmini: Boiled beef ravioli, with sour cream for dipping option. I personally think it doesn't even needs the sour cream; it's a great snack by itself!
- Chicken Shish Kebab: I'm not a huge fan of grilled veggies, but paired with the grilled chicken, it was pretty good. A "healthy" fall fest option...
- (piece of) Jumbo Torpedo Sausage: Let me tell you - that's a SOLID hot dog! Great taste and texture. Very filling.
The sampler might be a bit on the pricier side, but you do get to try several things so that next time, you can buy just your favorite!
๐๏ธDeep Fried Cheesy Pig Stick at Community of Christ Booth 128, $3.00
If the name doesn't sound like it will clog your arteries, wait until you hear the description: a mozzarella cheese stick, wrapped in bacon, deep fried in pancake batter. This just SCREAMS Fall Fest food, so obviously I had to try it! It was very cheesy, and I think another slice of bacon would've helped the taste. Very good deal for the price, and I think it's a fun twist on your classic mozzarella stick.
๐๏ธChili Cheesecake at Bethany Christian Church
Booth 24, $5.00
This is exactly what it sounds like. A slice of creamy cheesecake topped with chili- yes, chili like the soup. It sounds wrong. It looks like an abomination. It tastes...interesting. I definitely didn't hate it. The warm chili sort of melts the cold cheesecake, and creates an interesting flavor combination that I honestly can't describe. You'll just have to try it...if you're brave enough.
๐๏ธOld Fashioned Bread Pudding at Bethany Christian Church
Booth 24, $5.00
Now, onto a more "normal" food. Sold by the same booth as the Chili Cheesecake, this is something straight from heaven. Cream cheese frosting and pecans top this decadent dessert. It's your classic bread pudding, with a warm vanilla taste that makes you want to spend your entire paycheck getting more. Absolutely perfect dessert choice.
๐๏ธPeach Tea at Hoof Beats Therapeutic Riding
Booth 16, $6.00
This booth has several different flavor options for coffee, tea, and popping boba. (Side note: if you've never had boba, you're missing out). This particular combination tasted like a berries and cream drink. A nice refresher after a night of fried foods. Highly recommend!
Stay tuned for Day 2!
