Suspect arrested for July pedestrian fatality collision

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 16, 2025

EVERETT, WA – On September 16, 2025, at approximately 9:30am, the Everett Police Traffic Safety Unit arrested the suspect driver, a male in his 60s, in conjunction with a fatal pedestrian collision which occurred on July 27, 2025, in the 500 block of W Casino Rd.

Since the incident, Traffic Safety Unit investigators have worked diligently to process this collision scene, which spanned over 10 blocks. Their efforts included the collection and analysis of video, biological and digital evidence as well as conducting several witness and suspect interviews.

The male was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for felony Hit and Run.

EVERETT, WA – On the morning of July 27, at approx. 0438 hours, Everett Police officers responded to the 8500 block of 7th Ave. SE for a report of a person laying on the side of the road. Upon arrival, officers located a severely injured male. Everett Fire units responded in order to render aid, but unfortunately the male’s injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Evidence at the scene led officers to believe that the male was a pedestrian, and he was struck by a vehicle in the area of Casino Rd. and 5th Ave. W. The vehicle continued to drive after the collision, resulting in the victim ending up further down the road, to the location where he was found on 7th Ave. SE.

Everett PD’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to assist with the investigation. The detectives were able to collect evidence from community members, video from surrounding businesses, and data from the department’s FLOCK camera system.

On July 29, investigators identified the suspect vehicle and a potential driver. The suspect vehicle was impounded, and it will be processed for additional evidence.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the male on the morning of the collision. They will be officially identifying the male and providing the cause of death. Everett PD has made tentative identification of the male and Chief DeRousse has been in contact with his family to provide an update on the case.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation. This is a complicated incident, and a thorough investigation will take some time. Once completed, it will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review. At this point, no charges have been filed.

Anybody having additional information about this incident are encouraged to call the Everett Police Dept. Tip Line at 425-257-8450.

No injuries during HazMat incident at Naval Station Everett; Substance found to be nonhazardous

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 15, 2025

EVERETT, WA – At approximately 12:40 p.m. today, Monday, September 15, the Everett Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials (HazMat) incident at Naval Station Everett, located at 2000 W Marine View Drive. A report had been received regarding a package containing a suspicious substance discovered in the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit health clinic.

Upon arrival, Naval Police and Fire personnel were already on the scene. Individuals who may have been exposed to the unknown substance were evacuated from the clinic. First responders conducted immediate gross decontamination to remove most of the hazardous material. Those exposed were medically evaluated and triaged at the scene, and fortunately, none exhibited signs or symptoms of illness or injury. However, personnel closest to the package were evaluated on-site and later transported to the local hospital for precautionary measures.

As the situation unfolded, a third alarm HazMat response was requested by the incident command to ensure sufficient HazMat personnel were present to address the incident. A unified command was established, integrating Naval Station Everett personnel with Fire Incident Command.

Following the evacuation, the Snohomish County Hazardous Materials Response Team, comprising members from various regional fire agencies, entered the building. They located the package in question and conducted several tests, concluding that the substance was an inorganic material determined to be nonhazardous.

Following the assessment, Naval Station Everett was temporarily closed but reopened shortly after the substance was classified as nonhazardous, allowing affected personnel who had been transported to the hospital to return.

Thanks in part to our regional hazardous materials response partners, including South County Fire, Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue, and Marysville Fire District, for assisting with the incident. The scene was handed back over to Naval Station Everett once it was confirmed that the substance was not hazardous.
