"I like being in the radio station because it's just like a thing, you know? I like music, so that's what pushed me towards the radio station particularly, but I like being with this random group of people, all with different motivations of being in this one place. I'm running a radio station for some reason. That's got nothing to do with my major or what I'm planning on doing in the future. I'm just like doing a thing, you know?"
DJ Landau, '25, a Computer Engineering major and Mathematics minor, is the Events Director at WTSR. "We have this DJ cart, so if any organization has any sort of event on campus, like little fairs or expos, we have this big cart, with these big speakers, and we go and roll it over there and start blasting music out of it. That's a service we run on campus." Asked about what he's learned in the position, DJ responds, "I think I learned a lot about planning. I've always been capable of running things day-to-day. It's planning more big-picture things, you know. I think that's something the radio station sort of helped me hone." Additionally, DJ handles WTSR merchandise sales, and yep... coincidental to his moniker, DJ is also a DJ; his Monday dayside show airs from 2-4 pm.
When talking about WTSR, DJ frequently mentions people and the community. "There's sort of just a vibe to it, you know? I think it's a lot more obvious to people coming to the station first-time, where you walk in, and it's sort of just chill. It's nice to have a little place on campus where I can just have a key to cool."
DJ has encouraging words for anyone who is interested in getting involved and/or joining WTSR. "Just do it. It's not worth getting nervous about it. It's a college radio station. There's a turnover every four years. There is not as steep of a step to getting involved as one would think there is. It isn't requiring of a big resume or anything. We're all students. Maybe not all of us have had AP, extracurriculars, XYZ, but don't be worried about that. It's worth it to just give it a shot!"
