Dear Reader,
Summer is in full swing, and once again, Golden Heart Magazine is arriving just a little fashionably late for our summer edition. This marks the second year in a row that we’ve been a few weeks behind and while part of me wants to apologize, I’ve also come to see it as a true reflection of the season.
Summer in Fairbanks is busy, to say the least. With some of my biggest community projects reaching their peak in June, maybe it’s only natural that this edition always runs a little behind. But honestly, isn’t that what summer is all about? Slowing down, soaking it in, and giving ourselves permission to press pause… even when our to-do lists try to say otherwise.
I’ve been having a fantastic summer so far: hosting the Downtown Market in Golden Heart Plaza, savoring sweet little treats around town, walking our pups under the midnight sun, and watching Fairbanks bloom with flowers, friendly faces, and the sounds of nature. There’s something magical about how alive this city feels in the summertime, like we’re all emerging from hibernation and remembering how good it feels to simply be outside together.
I’ve run into more friends on the sidewalk in the last few weeks than I did all winter. It’s a season of reconnection, both with each other and with the place we call home. Even in the busiest moments, there’s a rhythm here that reminds me to breathe, look around, and take it all in.
I hope this edition brings you that same sense of joy, discovery, and connection. Whether you’re a lifelong Fairbanksian or just passing through, may you find something in these pages that makes you smile and maybe even helps you fall a little more in love with our Golden Heart City.
Stay golden,
Olivia Rodriguez ✨
