Guyana passport jumps to 55th most powerful with 89 visa-free countries
The Guyana passport is now ranked 55th in the 2024 Henley Passport Index, with access to 89 visa-free destinations.
This represents an improvement in ranking from 59th in 2023, and 64th in 2022.
Guyana shares the 55th spot with Jamaica and Nauru, a tiny island country in Micronesia, northeast of Australia.
Barbados is the best performing Caribbean country at 20th with visa-free travel to 165 countries, followed by the Bahamas in the 21st position with visa-free travel to 161 countries.
St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines share the 23rd spot with visa-free access to 157 countries, while Antigua and Barbuda comes in at 26th and Trinidad and Tobago at 27th.
However, Guyana outperforms superpower China, which is ranked 59th with visa-free travel to 85 countries, and India, which is ranked 82nd with visa-free access to 58 countries.
The world’s most powerful passport is Singapore, with access to 195 countries; followed by Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and France – all of which have visa-free access to 192 countries.
The worse performing country is Afghanistan, ranked 103rd with visa-free travel to only 26 countries.
Outside of CARICOM, Guyanese passport holders can enjoy visa-free travel to countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Fiji, Malaysia, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, among others.
