I’m devastated and really need help brainstorming. In October, I got 4 chicks to add to my existing mixed flock — 2 Gold Laced Wyandottes and 2 Bielefelders. They were sweet, friendly, and had been laying for a few months.

Last month, one of the Wyandottes died out of nowhere. I found her feet-up in the dust bath area, still warm, with clear fluid coming from her mouth. She had laid an egg that morning, and she looked perfectly healthy when I checked her over. No mites, no injuries, no missing feathers, no obvious issue. Since she was pretty small, I wondered if it could have been a heart problem or something internal.

Today, one of the Bielefelders from the same group died almost the exact same way. She was still warm and looked completely healthy. My brother, who is a butcher and loves to tell me when I’m wrong, checked her over thoroughly and couldn’t find anything wrong either.

She was free ranging and found near the back of the coop by the feed room. No punctures, no missing feathers, no sign of predator damage, and we have a livestock guardian dog.

Is this a coincidence, or is there something I should be checking for immediately? I have 25 birds and I’m scared I’m going to lose more. Any ideas are appreciated. 💔🐔

I could really use some Silkie eye advice. 😭 About a week after we got her, one eye started bubbling and had yellow discharge stuck in the feathers around it. We treated with Terramycin and an antibiotic, and it started to improve, but once she finished the antibiotic, the other eye started discharging and both eyes began bubbling.

We tried Tylan too, and it helped but didn’t completely heal her. We finally took her to the vet, and she received an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory shot. Her sneezing has improved, and now the discharge is white like in the photo.

We’ve been continuing Terramycin in the eyes and using warm water and saline daily to gently remove the mucus, but this little girl fights like her life depends on it. 😵‍💫🐔

Does anyone have a gentle method for getting the mucus out without stressing her so much?

My 2 broody hens have apparently entered a joint custody agreement over these eggs. 😂🥚

I’ve never had two hens hatch together before. When the chicks arrive, could this cause fighting or confusion, or will they both keep watch over the babies?

Can anyone help me figure out what might be going on? Two of my 7 chickens are not behaving normally. They’re not foraging with the others, but they will eat treats.

I felt their crops and they seem empty/normal. I don’t see any obvious injuries or issues, but they are puffed up, sometimes closing their eyes, and acting lethargic.

They’re definitely not right, and I’m not sure what to check next. Thank you. 🐔🙏

I may have done this backwards, so I need broody hen advice. 😅 I introduced purchased chicks to my broody hen during the day because I wanted my kids to get to participate.

The hen and chicks are in a metal cage inside the coop with food and water since another hen was pecking at the babies. My broody hen isn’t aggressive toward them, but they also aren’t snuggling under her yet.

It’s been a few hours. Is there still a chance she’ll accept them, or should I move them back to a brooder? We’ve hatched eggs and raised chicks before, but never added purchased chicks to a broody. 🐔🐣

Meet Hope, our little house chicken and absolute survivor. ❤️

We found her outside just over a month ago with a severe neck wound. She was bleeding badly, and I’m pretty sure the rest of the flock attacked her. The hole in the back of her neck was bad enough that I honestly thought she wouldn’t survive.

For almost 2 weeks, I syringe-fed her because she wouldn’t open her eyes or move much at all. But little by little, she came back. Now she eats, drinks, stands, looks around, and acts like a normal chicken in so many ways. Fresh corn on the cob is clearly one of her favorite things.

She is still very wobbly and has trouble walking. Her feet tend to cross or stay too close together, and she uses her wings a lot to balance. I suspect there may be spinal damage from the attack. Sadly, I don’t think she can safely go back to the flock because whenever we bring her outside, the other chickens immediately try to attack her again.

We’re happy to keep her inside because we love her so much. My big question is: will she ever lay eggs? She was about 2 months old when the attack happened and is about 3 months old now. She lost almost 10 ounces at first but has gained it all back.

I never expected to be this proud of a chicken, but Hope has earned every bit of it. ❤️🐔

I’m new to chickens and really need advice. Something is going through my flock, and I’m losing chickens fast. 💔

I have birds from 3 months old down to 2 weeks old. The little ones are still in a raised brooder inside the coop and are fine, but the older ones have been dying one by one for over a week.

The ones I noticed before they died were fluffed up, acting weak, and moping around. I pulled them out right away, but they passed within about 12 hours. Yesterday I woke up to 2 dead, and this morning I woke up to 5 more.

I don’t know if this is coccidiosis, something toxic, parasites, or another illness, but I’m scared for the rest of them.

We started molasses in the water yesterday, and my husband treated the coop with diatomaceous earth. Has anyone dealt with this kind of sudden loss? What should I do immediately? 🐔😭

Hi! We just added 4 hens and a rooster to our little flock. The hens seem happy, but I’m worried our rooster might be stressed from the move.

When we let them out into the field today, he chose to stay in the coop while the girls went exploring. He isn’t aggressive at all, but he’s very wary of people and won’t really let us near him.

Any tips for helping a nervous rooster settle in and trust us a little more? Thank you! 🐔🙏

Good news: my husband built a nice flat 2x4 roosting bar.
Bad news: the chickens have voted to roost absolutely anywhere except there. 🤣🐔

I’m new to this, so I’d love advice. Is there a way to train them to sleep on the roosting bar, or do they usually figure it out once it gets cold? We live in New England, so I want them ready for winter.

Also, in the first photo, is the black/white/brown one looking like a rooster? If not, she’s just a major bully. I already know the 2 RIR are boys.
