Food boxes will be distributed at two local sites on Wednesday: The First Presbyterian Church in downtown Fairbanks from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Lord of Life Lutheran Church on St. Nicholas Drive in North Pole from noon to 2 p.m.

The Fairbanks Community Food Bank’s effort to collect turkeys to put into 3,300 Thanksgiving food boxes for the community is wrapping up.

Three murders and a case of attempted murder were reported in Fairbanks within the last week.

Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, and the Alaska Department of Public Safety gave a press conference Monday morning about four separate cases in Fairbanks.

“Nutrition Services’ mission is to make sure that every child has the most nutritious meal that they can have because without it, it’s going to impact their learning,” said Amy Rouse, the Director of Nutrition Services with the district.

Total meal debt in the district currently stands at more than $9,000.

While the business side of the restaurant will remain closed on Thanksgiving, Bobby’s Restaurant is serving free Thanksgiving meals from noon to 4 pm for everybody that has nowhere to go. Guests can expect a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad and desserts.
