Or so the tweet says.

The last time we shared an HBCU Player Exclusive, we received many comments saying that the information was inaccurate - "PE's will never be available to the general public". The jury is still out on that. This time, don't just take our word for it. Take it from the Bison themselves.

Southern University is the latest HBCU to partner with image storage giant Getty Images. The Louisiana-based institution has joined forces with Getty to "further promote and protect the legacy of Southern University and A&M College."

Getty's partnerships with affiliate HBCUs operate in a similar manner: each HBCU retains full copyright control over their images. All proceeds from the Collection will go towards supporting the program, providing a new revenue stream for each HBCU through royalties and contributing to scholarships for students attending these institutions.

Getty's current list of HBCU partners includes Claflin University, Delaware State University, Jackson State University, Lincoln University, North Carolina Central University, Prairie View A&M University, and now Southern University.

Earlier in April, a video surfaced showing artist Yella Beezy meeting with Coach Prime during the Buff's spring training and loosely discussing a potential working collaboration. Beezy then introduces who we can assume to be an engineer to Coach Prime, saying "this [is] the man that's going to make you sound good".

This week, a preview and proof of their collaboration was released. The working title has been dubbed as "Must be the Money 2024" or "Must be the Money II".

What are your thoughts on Coach Prime's performance? Do you like their collaboration or not?

The NBA recently welcomed the third cohort of the HBCU Fellowship Program, a 10-week paid internship aimed at providing career development opportunities in the basketball business for undergraduate and graduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Launched by the NBA Foundation in 2022, the program seeks to empower Black youth economically. LeVelle Moton wants other Black and minority men’s and women’s college basketball coaches to have a better chance of being hired at Power 5 schools and also wants assistants to get more consideration for head coaching roles. With those goals in mind, he and Mike Tomlin hosted the Next Up coaches conference in Raleigh, North Carolina.

As two young Black men hired for head coaching jobs without much head coaching experience yet excelled, Moton and Tomlin have built a strong relationship over the years.

“[The hiring process for Black coaches] it’s kind of been the elephant in the room that people discuss but they don’t discuss openly and candidly, and, to be completely honest with you, it was something that Mike and I had always discussed. It connected our bond..” -LeVelle Moton

He invited 30 Black coaches from around the country who are head and assistant coaches at HBCUs, Power 5 institutions, mid-major schools and high schools.

During the conference, coaches will got to speak individually with search firms and athletic directors. Moton believes getting that face time will allow the coaches to build relationships that could be fruitful in the future.

05/29/2024

The contribution of the Negro Leagues is finally receiving proper recognition from MLB. The league formally incorporated the records of former Negro Leagues players into its official statistics. This move allows players who were banned from MLB due to segregation to be considered in the same way as white players.

This decision comes after more than three years of work by a league-commissioned research group. The inclusion of the Negro Leagues statistics has led to immediate and dramatic shifts in MLB’s all-time leaderboards. For example, Josh Gibson now holds the record for baseball’s best career batting average (.372) and slugging percentage (.718), overtaking Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth, respectively. The top-10 lists for many key batting and pitching records have changed substantially.
