Let’s start with this: Aircraft icing is dangerous. Do everything you can to avoid it.

But sometimes you end up in it without trying and you’d better have a plan to get out.

Our Cirrus SR22 G6/G7 fleet comes equipped with an FAA-approved FIKI (flight in known icing) system and it did a beautiful job of protecting us on the way home the other night.

While the unprotected surfaces had accumulated quite a bit by the time we landed, the critical protected surfaces were completely free of ice and operated perfectly.
