Contrary to urban legend, The Beat didn’t base our name on the “Beat” movement and the beatniks of the 1950’s and ‘60’s, but we were no doubt influenced and shaped at some point by the free spirited works of Kerouac, Ginsberg, Cassady and the rest.

As we’re all hunkered down, doing our part, and riding out this crisis we encourage everyone take some needed comfort from the arts. Read that great book you haven’t had time for, listen to some music and really *hear* it, break out the art supplies and create. And... tell everyone about that book or album or film that has made this time a little easier.

The Bruce Museum presents “On the Edge of the World: Masterworks by Laurits Anderson Ring.”

The National Gallery of Denmark holds the world’s largest collection of Ring’s works, and for the first time, 25 of his most important pieces are in a traveling exhibition in the U.S. and are on display at The Bruce until May 24.
