It gives me great pleasure to announce that Tim Tigner’s “The Greater Good,” which I copyedited, published today in print, eBook, and audiobook format. The Ides of March is fitting for launching a treacherous thriller like this.

Like most of his thrillers, “The Greater Good” revolves around a breakthrough medical invention. Like “The Price of Time” and “Stolen Thoughts,” it also provides the reader with an engaging and provocative thought exercise on power, morality, and watching what you wish for. Imagine “Breaking Bad” meets “The Bourne Identity.”

As the story kicks off, Dr. Katheryn Newton is close to completing her fifteen-year quest to save millions of lives by solving the problem of transplant rejection. A day later, that research is a wreck, Kate’s a murder suspect, and she’s in possession of technology that could change the world—either for better, or for much, much worse.

Also mixed in are a couple of mysterious spies, a conniving colleague, a relentless detective, a blackmailing official, and a husband with an ambitious activist agenda. The result is an engaging plot layered with twists and mysteries that will keep you and Kate guessing right up to the satisfying conclusion.

Last month I was privileged to have a small part in preparing Tim Tigner’s latest techno-thriller. “The Greater Good” will be released in Kindle format on March 15 and is available for preorder at https://www.amazon.com/Greater-Good-Tim-Tigner-ebook/dp/B0DVB6WDH1. An audiobook version will also be available.

If you’re a Tim Tigner fan, you know what to expect: a smart plot based on cutting-edge technology, with likable, believable characters and plenty of twisty suspense. If you haven’t read any of Tim’s books, this is a great place to start. What are you waiting for?

I have had a streak of bad luck with jewelry: losing it, breaking it, and other mishaps—quite aside from having an accumulation of costume jewelry purchased to match outfits I no longer own! The first real disaster I recall took place in 2008. Our daughter and her husband were living in England, and we visited there in March. She had devised an ambitious itinerary for us, including visits to London to sample some galleries, walk along the Thames, and conclude with a performance of…...

When I was in rehab after my hip replacement surgeries, I was encouraged to take long strides to help stretch out my hips. Sound advice but not always easy to implement. For a start, the maximum length of my stride is limited by my short legs. Moreover, I have observed that the body is not inclined to take long strides or move very fast when going only short distances....

In my last post, I mentioned that I have a new Apple Watch. There is a long story about that. Apparently I had at some point idly commented that I'd like to have an Apple Watch. This was probably a result of being dissatisfied with my Garmin sport watch, which sometimes takes half a mile or more (or my two-mile walk) to find a satellite and start recording the distance, making it more or less useless for tracking anything but my usual route (the length of which is well known)....

They say that "a trouble shared is a trouble halved" and that "misery loves company." I live a relatively trouble-free life; most of my miseries involve technology, and the last couple of weeks have proved to me how comforting it is to know that I am not suffering alone. I recently acquired an Apple Watch (an insanely generous birthday gift from my husband)....

A few weeks ago I received my usual wall calendar for the coming year from The Nature Conservancy. With it was the above certificate. It was not the first time I had received such a certificate, and, as in the previous instance, I viewed it with humor and dismay and not at all the perhaps intended feeling of guilt. This was the culmination of a longstanding pattern....

For the past several weeks, my husband and I have been watching a television series called Person of Interest, which is, according to Wikipedia, "an American science fiction crime drama television series that aired on CBS from September 22, 2011, to June 21, 2016, with its five seasons consisting of 103 episodes." We've just finished the second season (45 total episodes) and are still intrigued....

This week I did another tiny job for Hungarian company DACHS, maker of OnStyle and OnTrack software. This has definitely been the client that keeps on giving--mostly small jobs, but at least something to keep me in business!

09/26/2022

Every week I'm reminded that there's no traffic to this page. Not surprising since I never post anything here, but the fact is that I'm currently doing very little paid work. I am continuing to copyedit documents (flyers, blog posts, brochures, etc.) for DACHS, but I don't currently have a big book project under way. Sorry!

I'm currently working on copyediting software documentation for DACHS, a Hungarian firm, publisher of OnStyle document formatting software.

My latest editing/typesetting effort has been published in England. "Poems To The Heart : Thoughts on values and life's experiences" is a collection of verses, some funny, some serious, by a retired consultant. It is currently in limited distribution but should eventually be available at Amazon.
