MY SON, 8, BECAME AS GENTLE AS A LAMB AFTER JUST ONE WEEKEND WITH MY MIL, SO I ASKED HIM WHAT SHE DID.

Our son has always been a handful — energetic, spoiled at times, and completely uninterested in discipline. My husband and I tried everything to instill some responsibility in him, but nothing seemed to work. That's why his transformation after just one weekend with my mother-in-law felt almost unreal.

When he came back, he was polite, helpful, and eerily calm. He washed the dishes, vacuumed, and even spent less time glued to his tablet. It was like we had gotten back a different child. I RETURNED HOME FOR CHRISTMAS WITHOUT WARNING AND DISCOVERED MY KIDS IN THE CAR – THEIR STORY HAD ME RACING INTO THE HOUSE

I'd been stuck on work trips for months, barely seeing my family. This Christmas, I decided to surprise them and drove home unannounced on Christmas Eve.

Pulling into the driveway, I noticed the garage door ajar. Odd. My wife was always careful about locking up. My heart raced when I saw my sons, 8 and 9, sitting in my wife's car, bundled up against the cold.

"Boys, why are you out here?" I asked, concerned.

My older son said, "Mom told us to stay here. She said she's busy with important stuff."

"What kind of stuff?" I pressed, my stomach tightening.

My wife and I were invited to my friend's wedding. It was a pretty intimate gathering, with about 70 people, mostly family.

After the ceremony, the food came out, and it looked amazing. It was a buffet setup. They were calling tables up a few at a time to get their food, starting with the family of both sides. That made sense. But by the time our table was called, there was nothing left. I asked if more food was coming out, but apparently, that ship had already sailed. NEIGHBOR ASKED MY SON TO WASH HIS CAR FOR A MONTH, THEN REFUSED TO PAY — I TAUGHT HIM A LESSON ABOUT BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOR.

My 14-year-old son, Ben, came home one evening looking upset. He had spent the last month washing our neighbor Mr. Peterson's black Jeep. Mr. Peterson, a businessman who adores his fancy cars, had promised Ben $50 per wash — a big deal for a 14-year-old.

"What's wrong?" I asked.
"He didn't pay me," Ben mumbled, dropping onto the couch.
"What do you mean? Didn't he agree to pay $50 each time?"
Ben sighed. "Yeah, but today, after I finished the fourth wash, he said it wasn't 'spotless' and that I wouldn't get paid. He said I should have done a better job if I wanted my money."

Anger boiled inside me. Mr. Peterson had always acted superior, but this was low.
"You washed it every week, right?"
Ben nodded. "Yeah, and spent hours on it."

"How much does he owe you?"
"$200." I handed Ben $200 from my wallet.
"Here. You earned it. But don't worry, I'm not done with him."

13 YEARS AGO WAS THE LAST TIME I SAW MY DAUGHTER — RECENTLY I GOT A LETTER FROM MY GRANDSON I NEVER KNEW ABOUT.

13 years ago, my wife left me for my boss. She took my daughter with her — the daughter I loved more than anything. You know how it goes: kids usually stay with their moms. Back then, my daughter was just 13. I tried to stay in her life, but my ex filled her head with lies about me, and eventually, she cut me off completely.

Life went downhill after that. I got really sick, went through countless surgeries, and found out my ex had moved to another state with her new husband and my daughter. The years passed — 13 of them. I never remarried, never even wanted to. My mind was always stuck in the past, holding onto memories of the life I'd lost.

But yesterday, something incredible happened. I got a letter, and on the envelope, it said: "For Grandpa Steve."

I opened it, and as soon as I read the first line, my heart stopped:
