πŸ”₯ πŸ”₯ Two families will be conducting controlled burns in Black Hawk this weekend. Please refrain from reporting these burns. If you are also planning a controlled burn, it is crucial to notify Sanpete County dispatch at (435) 835-2191. Our burning days are limited, and with the upcoming wet weekend, this may be your final opportunity. Remember to burn responsibly: keep water nearby, clear the perimeter to bare ground, inform dispatch, and have shovels readily available. Burning any non-organic material is illegal and you will be ticketed.

πŸ”₯ SUNDAY VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT πŸ”₯

Today our firefighter is Jordan Johnstone.

Jordan was born and raised in South Jordan. His grandparents lived in Hideaway so he is no stranger to this area as he made many visits here in his youth. He has two younger sisters and a younger brother and is still single.

He took classes at Snow College in chemistry and would like to finish a degree in chemistry. His goal is to have his own welding business. He learned to weld from his grandfather. He currently works at Big Pine Sports and has done so for the past 3 1/2 years as a mechanic. His mechanical skills are very helpful at the fire department.

Jordan is a member of the US Army Reserves and is a paratrooper. He has 14 jumps under his belt. His plan is to retire from the Reserves.

He joined the IVFD because he wanted to serve his community and wanted to learn how to work under stressful conditions. He is currently our department’s Training Officer and continually puts us through drills to sharpen our skills. The other night he had us driving the fire trucks blindfolded in the parking lot as a team member would give directions as to how to go through an obstacle course. He also had use crawling on the ground blindfolded following tangled fire hoses back to the fire truck. The purpose being so that in heavy smoke we could find our way back to our fire truck and to safety.

He enjoys working with people helping them to work together as one and to function as a team. He is a lot of fun to work with and exudes energy and enthusiasm.

Jordan enjoys riding his snowmobile, restoring old cars, hunting, fishing, and camping. He is a true outdoorsman. He also loves going places where he has never been before and experiencing something new and meeting new people.

He is surely one of Indianola's finest.

Our firefighter this week is Kaden Swann. He is the oldest of three sons. He is from West Jordan, Utah. Kaden is still single but is steadily dating one young lady. He has worked for Big Pine Sports as a mechanic since March of 2021.

He joined the fire department because he wanted to be part of the solution that plagues the wild lands of Utah - fire. He felt this would be a good way to give back to the community and to serve his neighbors. His mechanical skills have been a wonderful asset to the fire department which has so much equipment that needs tender loving care. Kaden has a great easy going personality that makes him enjoyable to be around. He jumps right into a task without being asked and has proven himself to be a hard worker.

Kaden loves to hunt, fish, go camping, and to ride his dirt bike and snow mobile. He is an outdoors type of man. He also loves being around his family and has a wonderful relationship with both sets of his grandparents.

He enjoys being mentored by those in the department that have more experience in fire fighting and he loves to learn. His goal is to become a diesel mechanic and has taken classes at Salt Lake Community College to that end.

The one frustration that he has is not knowing who or how many are going to show up to help on a fire. That is always a big problem with an all volunteer fire department. That is why we all would like to see more of our community members come to join us to help in this noble venture hint, hint, hint.

Kaden Swann is truly one of Indianola's finest.
