The Clock Tower Built From Love 🕰️
One of Fall River’s most recognizable buildings started with grief, love, and a gift to the city.
The old B.M.C. Durfee High School building on Rock Street was given to Fall River in memory of Bradford Matthew Chaloner Durfee, who died young and cared deeply about education. The building became one of the signature landmarks of the Highlands, with a five-story clock tower that once chimed 29 times each morning, marking the 29 years of his life.
That is the kind of detail that stops you for a second. A school was not just built because the city needed classrooms. It was built as a memorial, a promise, and a belief that Fall River’s kids deserved something grand.
The building still feels like old Fall River pride carved into stone.
