We are deeply honored to share some very special news.

The California State Library has accepted two ECS Publishing titles, Heavy Metal is a Sin and The Circle of Kourabies, for the collections of its California History Room.

The California History Room *only* collects and preserves materials that help document the history and lived experience of California. For both of these books to be accepted means they have been recognized as having a place within that California historical record.

For an independent publisher, there are few recognitions more meaningful than knowing that books we brought into the world have been judged worthy of preservation as part of California’s historical record.

We are profoundly grateful to the California State Library and its California History Section for accepting these works into its collections, and proud of authors Kathy Crane, Sandia Harrison, and Harrison Rose Tate. It's their talent for telling stories that made this accomplishment possible.

Some books are published for today. It is an extraordinary honor when they are preserved for tomorrow.

The California State Library has added two ECS Publishing titles to its collection:

Heavy Metal is a Sin by Harrison Rose Tate
The Circle of Kourabies by Kathy Crane and Sandia Harrison.

Both books were accepted due to their strong cultural and historical ties to California, and will be preserved in the State Library’s collection for on-site use. When accepted, they become a cultural artifact, part of the institution's priceless collection.

Heavy Metal is a Sin reaches back into postwar California, following a family through poverty, factory life, religious fundamentalism, Vietnam, and secrets carried across decades. It is the first known novel to depict Stockton, California beyond stereotypes of this historical area's residents.

The Circle of Kourabies preserves another part of California history: the lives of Greek immigrant families who built new lives here while carrying their traditions, recipes, faith, and memories across generations. Due to the book's own cultural significance, it was recently accepted into the Hellenic Museum of Michigan and the Lake Elsinore Historical Society's permanent collections as well.

At ECS, we believe stories like these are worth preserving.

Harrison Rose Tate and her novel Elsewhere is a Place in Central Park have been selected to be part of the Artisan Fair at the 62nd Annual Danish Festival in Greenville, Michigan.

Because the novel is set in Denmark, this invitation feels especially meaningful. There's something fitting about introducing the story to readers as part of one of America's largest and longest-running celebrations of Danish heritage 🇩🇰

Whether you're a longtime supporter or discovering the novel for the first time, we're grateful to see this critically-acclaimed book, based on a true story, continue finding its way into new communities. Hope everyone is having a beautiful weekend! For all of you readers, here is a novel I'd like to share today:

The scene is nighttime in San Miguel de Allende. Día de los Mu***os.

Santiago is moving through the packed square when someone spills a drink all over him. He looks up, irritated, and finds himself staring into the eyes of a pale British man standing in the middle of the crowd, horrified and speechless.

Neither knows it yet, but the moment will alter both of their lives.
This image was inspired by that scene from The Tour Guide, my novel based on a true story.

It feels alive: music, mariachi bands, mojigangas weaving through the crowd, candlelight, summer heat, and that ethereal feeling when a single moment suddenly separates itself from all the others around it.
